I would side with my wife 100% and tell my sister (and anyone else in the family, if applicable) to F off if I am invited to a family event and not my wife.

I’ve been married 27 years. The first 3 we felt like we had to do everything together and our multiple visits to her family for a weekend were causing friction especially on my end.
Then one day we figured out that just because she was going to her families house for the weekend didn’t mean I had to. So instead of dreading all of those weekends (more than half) I began looking forward to them because I had the house to myself.
And you what happened.
She gradually, started going less and less to the point that now she only goes 2 or 3 weekends a year and I go with her because it is not to often.
You go to the family thing and let her stay home.
Then one day we figured out that just because she was going to her families house for the weekend didn’t mean I had to. So instead of dreading all of those weekends (more than half) I began looking forward to them because I had the house to myself.

Your sister can't male it a point to not invite your wife and expect you to come. If she has a problem with it, she needs to invite your wife.
