Canceled the one planned for 2023 and the ones set for future years [link=(also)]https://www.nola.com/news/business/article_6e1b1ed2-3ac0-11ed-9d58-33bb82085e60.html[/link].

Really sad. The immediate problem seems to be a shortage of police officers to staff the run, but the city leadership sounds basically indifferent. "Just go ahead and cancel your event that brings thousands of people here annually, we don't really care." That is the attitude that is projected. Maybe the true sentiment is different but that's my perception.

It's not just this one thing. It's that this seems to be happening everywhere in all directions in the city.

Marathons are too white anyway.

Maybe they can move it to another city willing to host? BR, Lafayette, etc?

The 5K’s that are run in downtown BR are fun.

Bring it here to Baton Rouge. Our mayor loves shite like this. We have tons of events all year! Plus Downtown here is so much safer! Also I love huffin' paint thinner.

Cleveland would be a better fit. The start/finish line could be the Hall of Fame.

It’s almost guaranteed that someone in the race org wasn’t willing to make a couple of facilitation payments to the right people.

Reminds me of when I took a taxi from the airport to downtown years ago. Some big event like the Super Bowl had just happened and I made a comment that it was a good thing for the city. The driver shrugged and said “I didn’t get paid.”

The "Rock n Roll Marathon" is a series of marathons held in different cities.

I was (and still am) pretty upset about this. It was my first 13.1 in 2002 (before RNR was organizer), my first 26.2 in 2012, and after moving to Texas in 2010, was an annual event in my household to look forward to. RNR got a new owner a few years ago and his vision was to make it a more global experience. Since then, RNR had added a lot of international locations, but so many U.S. races have been retired. I ran RNR MGM 13.1 or 26.2 every year for 20 years. It was sort of disappointing running it on Lakefront this year, but this org ran this race (and others like Dallas) into the ground & then retired it. This is the bigger disappointment. MGM started in 1965, so it would be like retiring the CCC.

How much Rock N Roll is really happening in NOLA anyway? It’s either all just horrible, bottom barrel rap or doom metal bands at either house shows or Siberia.

Seems like sponsorships and entree fees would pay for itself in police support, shutting roads down for 4-5 hours on a Sunday morning.

Most cops love things like this as it’s easy money and most are off duty anyways.

Police shortages are the only reason. I honestly can’t think of another reason they’d cancel and event like this unless there just wasn’t enough available resources (police) to cover it which is really sad and pathetic.

I was skeptical if 2023 viability, landing squarely on one of the largest convention weekends of the year. Hopefully the remaining years end up being a leverage move and playing hardball to get the route approved down the line, but not holding my breathe that it happens
