Where can you even crab roadside now? I remember as a kid crabbing all up and down Hwy 27.
Old La 1 and the road to Elmers island

It's a small price to pay. IF they are properly trying to understand the remaining crab population growing forward. I recently watched a documentary on fishing and when under further review the fish being removed from the ocean was underestimated by half. Also surprising that many of these fisherman leave trash which is disgusting. How can you go crabbing, fishing etc. and leave trash behind or any evidence that you have been there

The limit is 12 dozen?! 144 crabs per day? That can’t be right, can it?

McClinton said this change was made so the fisheries office could have better record of how many people participate and their impact on the crab population.
Then why charge for it? Florida requires a “reef fishing” license in addition to your saltwater, but it’s a free addition.

You get to keep female crabs.
Consider yourself lucky its a 5 buck fee.
I pay 20 bucks a year for my shellfish license but I rape the crabs and clams so I more than get my money's worth. Eta....12 male crabs is a daily limit.

It's just raising the age to 21 to buy firearms they'll stop there! It's just banning bump stocks they'll stop there! It's just a small limit on red fish and speckled trout, they'll stop there! It's just a small fee for a license they'll stop there! It's just one transgender in one sport, they'll stop there! See how this works yet?
It’s just letting gays get married, they’ll stop there.
It’s just an abortion for rape of incest, they’ll stop there.
It’s just a tax on cigarettes, they’ll stop there.
It’s just two vaccines, they’ll stop there.
It’s just one retard posting on TD, they’ll stop there.
I see it now!

The rule has always been the same. All you need is a residential fishing license unless you are using traps then you need an extra trapping licence. All together less than $15

You were paying for a full saltwater license before. Now you are only having pay for a crab license.

This is just a money grab by WLF. Next thing you know they will launch an app that will require all license holders to self report all catches and locations (and length if required) for all fish, shrimp, crab, ducks, deer, and other seafood. I think they already do this for WMA areas and deer tagging. Then the next thing you know you will get a knock on your door from an agent for self reporting that you caught too much.
I know I was trying to be cynical, but that self reporting all catches could be a voluntary program and it could give invaluable data for conservation efforts.
There could be an incentive such as a chance to win a free boat or lifetime licenses. Doesn’t the the STAR program do something like this if you register with them and you catch a tagged fish you call in the number and one fish could be worth a boat.

it is going to be a $5 license, but the 12 dozen crabs a day isn’t going away

5 whole dollars. You're whining about 5 dollars a year.
For real haha go buy one crab at a store and let me know how much it costs.

Yeah, how about we check those tax returns on the commercial crabbers.

I wish the license was 50$ for the people crabbing the weir boat ramps in big lake and off HWY 27. Unreal the amount of trash left by these roadside crabbers especially at West cove boat launch past few years. They had to shut it down due to trash so no boaters could launch from there. Bump up the license price and have game wardens check them frequently. Nothing ticks me off more than a litter bug and they are everywhere in this state....

You really wanna bitch about a $5 license ?

Tyranny? It’s a $5 license.
If you’re a sportsman, it’s part of managing resources. I imagine Louisiana is very similar to SC, groups of people keeping everything they can stick a hook in or somehow catch. There aren’t enough green jeans around here to enforce laws, if you see people at boat landings catching undersized reds or crabs it’s almost impossible to get someone to respond.

You wanna get unreasonable mad at the government... watch Louisiana law for 5 minutes

All license fees will go back into helping improve wildlife in Louisiana. The cost of license of any kind is nothing compared to Texas. Our freshwater fishing license 35.00 salt 45.00. LA is 17.00. In Texas you have to have fishing license to crab for years.
