Where can you even crab roadside now? I remember as a kid crabbing all up and down Hwy 27.
well with so many crab traps you can walk across the canal without getting wet they pretty much wipe out most of the roadside accessible areas of any sort of crab populations

Seems like it always required a license, now there’s a cheaper one available if that’s all you want to do

In protest of this new regulation, I'll be limiting my throwing trash out of my car for crabs to eat on.

Get out of here with this shite. You have no fricking clue as to the stability or sustainability of the resource. There wouldn’t be a fish or fowl
Left in this state if it wasn’t regulated. You can debate the management programs for natural resources, but you cannot argue the necessity for management.
And you admit you don’t know dick about
The subject, but then render judgment. Clown take. You’re in over your head here.

“The crab industry is not only enjoyed by our recreational fishermen, but it’s also a commercial fishery too,” McClinton said. “A lot of people base their livelihood off of this fishery. So, knowing the whole gambit of what’s being caught and what’s being harvested allows us to make better management decisions.”
Commercial fisherman are pulling crabs out of ditches?
News to me

You’re an idiot. If there’s no regulation then people will over harvest and the population will be wiped out.
It amazes me how people do not understand some of the simple bigger picture things like this.

DWLF is a freaking embarrassment. Patrick Banks might be the biggest loser yes man to ever be in that miserable court.
People running drop nets in ditches are far less a threat to the ecology than say, maybe, menhaden boats. But they won’t touch that.

I always thought you needed a license. Was that only for state property like refuges?

"License" aka more taxes by another name

I got a ticket in like 2009 for crabbing on side of the road in Pointe-aux-Chenes for not having a fishing license.
So it wasn’t a thing and green jeans was fricking with me?

I’d be happy if roadside crabbers would just take their frickin trash with them! How bout green jeans enforce that!

Its a part of the salt water fishing license and if you don't have the need for it, its just 5 bucks. Also, they removed the license for 10 recreational crab traps and lumped it in the saltwater license as well.

“People that do not have a desire to saltwater fish and they just want to crab on the side of the road, then for those individuals, it is going to be a $5 license, but the 12 dozen crabs a day isn’t going away,” LDWF undersecretary Bryan McClinton said. McClinton said this change was made so the fisheries office could have better record of how many people participate and their impact on the crab population.
How do you count the crabs if one person buys a license and never uses it for crabbing and mix it in with the hook and line license?
This is just a money grab by WLF.
Next thing you know they will launch an app that will require all license holders to self report all catches and locations (and length if required) for all fish, shrimp, crab, ducks, deer, and other seafood.
I think they already do this for WMA areas and deer tagging.
Then the next thing you know you will get a knock on your door from an agent for self reporting that you caught too much.

They lumped it in with the saltwater license along with removing the $15 license for 10 recreational crab traps. How are they blatantly grabbing money here?

A drivers license or state issued ID isn’t free and we require that to exercise our right to vote. Get your panties out of a bunch. It’s five dollars to pull a limited resource out of the water. You’ll live.
