Waiting for my broadcast journalism class to begin on a January morning... Buckskin Bill walks in and announces that the shuttle Challenger has blown up shortly after launch.

I was about to call BS on your story because I actually saw it from my Homestead, Fl high school on our lunch period. It happened about 11:30 EST which would be 10:30 ish here. Still considered morning.

We all thought we saw the booster tanks pop off. We didn't know until we got back to class it had exploded.

Wow, I didn't know he was still kicking

When I got the notification on my phone, this is exactly what I said "I thought he died already". I guess I am too young to remember him. I never watched him, but I know he did a lot of good for the community. He was 88, but it seems like he had a good life.

Damn you 2018!

I remember his show well. He came to my school once in the fourth grade.

I got to know him in his later years through church. His wife had died last year.
He was a truly good man who always seemed to have a smile on his face and something kind to say to everyone.
I truly hope future generations are blessed with people like him.

I worked there for 4 years and don’t remember him coming in. I’m not sure I would have recognized him though.

How did you know it was him? Did he wear the little tassel jacket?

OR was he like "HEY! I'M BUCKSKIN BILL!!!"

Fun fact. My great uncle designed and built most of the set stuff on his show.

We already established we worked there around the same time. The few times I waited on him it was usually a lunch shift.
