The obstruction charges may still be good to go, but I would think a mistrial would weaken the case for civil rights violations. Of course, they can forward nonetheless, just saying. I just know that trials of this magnitude cost a lot of money, and DA's don't like taking a case to trial twice because if one jury is hung, it just shows the probability of a conviction is significantly less they obviously originally though.

Come on...after all of the turmoil our state has endured between this event and the Church shootings without a single episode of rioting, looting, etc...as well as the AA population in SC blatantly telling Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to stay away from SC after both events bc they believed their presence would do more damage than good (and they very vocally stated that they also believed both wanted to come bc of self-serving reasons versus any true intentions of actually doing anything of positive value for SC), I just do not see riots or any other kind of violent/senseless acts such as looting, blocking traffic, etc, happening now.

I hope and pray that the precedent set by the residents of SC's reactions to both prior events continues. I was so proud of the way South Carolinians maintained a dignified, united front and came together instead of allowing the events to divide the residents of this state as it so easily could have. Especially in light of the way the ppl of both Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland reacted to similar events.

ETA: Let me add, though, that as far as that POS "cop" being guilty/not guilty of murder/manslaughter...the a-hole should get a life sentence for every bullet that he fired. That man should be alive today and should have had his day in court to determine his guilt/innocence of whatever charge(s) were assigned to him. He was murdered, in broad daylight, 3 of the 5 bullets piercing him in the back, by someone whose job it was to protect him from being senselessly and inexcusably killed. How a jury is struggling with seeing this is beyond me.

So many 'conservatives' here who think cops should be able to shoot people in the back because they're too lazy to run after them. nice to know they all live barely above the poverty line.
