Anyone getting kicked out of Jesuit/Brother Martin is probably going to Rummel these days because they need all the students they can get.
You have no idea what the frick you're talking about...

Rummel has been turning down kids the last few years... It's been mentioned every time this subject comes up. Rummel has been keeping their numbers between 650 and 700.. It's what they want.

My daughter graduated from Ridgewood in 2013.
The Headmaster Mr. Montgomery has got to be in his 80’s by now.

Relatively normal Metairie people.

Does Ecole still have an athletic program? Those football field stands were sus when I went to school there and I graduated in 1997!

Why would they want half their pre Katrina numbers in the same size physical plant?
What changed?

barely... they haven't played football in a few years
i didn't Ridgewood had a kid on that Little League World Series championship team a few years ago... if he stayed there he'd be the hottest free agent in NOLA right now

East Jeff demographics have changed a bit in the last decade. Most of the under 18 population is probably Latino and they aren't going to private schools.

They did eliminate the "Junior High" campus that housed the 8th and 9th grades, so the space isn't there to increase to pre-Katrina enrollment.
I don't know much about them turning away or rejecting kids these days, but haven't been too involved with school since graduating.

Can’t speak for Rummel, but my kids elementary school is keeping enrollment at about 70% per-Katrina levels because they are intentionally keeping the student-teacher ratio down. Maybe Rummel is trying to do the same to better compete against the other Catholic HSs in the area?

Yep, he was in my sons class. I don’t recall his name though.

They probably went soft because they went broke. That should have been a sign for people who sent their kids there.
You cut out football because of the cost or because there isn't enough kids to play.

Meh. Define most

When I was in high school there was this "Three Rivers Academy" place that would take basically anyone. I think it was in Covington. If you tried to misbehave, they just ignored you and cashed daddy's check.
This was St Paul's, and to a lesser degree, St Stanislaus, to southshore kids. Both schools had a good reputation academically to the northshore locals, but the boarding portion of the schools were used as last resort for the frick ups from New Orleans.
One of my cousins got sent to St Paul's. He described it as "the place where you get sent when you get kicked out of every parochial school in New Orleans". He turned out alright, but daddy's money got him out of a jam or two in high school and college.

Wow, abrupt closure is as telling about leadership and culture as ensuing bankruptcy on the way. Yikes!

I Attended Ridgewood Prep from 1984-1992.
M.J. Montgomery and Steve Stropolo (football coach) were great people.
M. J. Montgomery must be in or around 90 now and the headmaster thing was in his blood and kept him going.

Presume those two folks are no longer leaders in the school.
I only knew it as a good school.
Abrupt ending is telling of something?

The letter to parents the headmaster says he was at Jesuit in 1950. Let’s say he was 15 then that would make the man almost 90.
I’m sure he still has most of his faculties but that’s just too damn old to be running a school imo.
I feel bad for him. I bet he’s outlived all his friends and spouse and this is what kept him going

I coached at a school that was supposed to play Ridgewood that last year. They had 11 kids total on the team and 2 were out sick so they forfeit the game.
