An active search for two members of the Kennedy family who went missing Thursday during a boating trip on Chesapeake Bay in Maryland has been suspended, the U.S. Coast Guard said Friday, according to reports.

Family member Kathleen Kennedy Townsend says the search for her 40-year-old daughter, Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean, and the daughter’s 8-year-old son Gideon McKean “has turned from rescue to recovery,” according to a statement.

Both McKean and her son were seen struggling to return to shore during a canoe trip near Herring Bay, Washington, D.C.’s FOX 5 reported.

Sad. Guess they didn't have lifejackets on? Hope they're recovered quickly.

That has to be a world record for the most uses of the name Kennedy in one article. Do they all really put Kennedy in their name somewhere?

They halted the search already? As in they went missing less than 48 hours ago, this most recent Thursday? Weren’t they in a canoe? Seems like a brief search.

Dammit that sucks. Thought about having some witty reply until I saw that the son was 8. I would never wish that on anyone. Can't imagine what the family is going through right now.

Were I a Kennedy, I’d ensconce myself in bubble wrap and just sit in the middle of a Montana field.

I started to say it's just that they're a large famous family and so we hear about them.

But now I'm trying to think back on both sides of my large Catholic family, and I can only think of one g-grandmother who died in a car accident. One other who died in the old school New Orleans way. Outside of that and a WW2 casualty, most that I know of died of natural causes.

I think it’s more they’re just so fricking rich and entitled they have copious amounts of free time which they fill with maybe this will kill me activities.

Horrible tragedy.

But why was the mom going into the water after a ball? Dad sounds like a cuck.

Either leave the ball or be a man and go get it.
