Move up within the company
When you go 100% remote and relocate away from the office (when you have the option to come in everyday), you’re telling management your priorities. Even if you’re a great worker they will give opportunities for advancement to people they know and see everyday.
What if I told you that everyone outside of our C-Suite works remotely? And they aren't even in the office every day.
I do realize that not everyone's situation is like mine, but I'm a consultant, I'm not super interested in moving into the operations side.

Yeah, my whole department works remotely 4 days per week. It's not something unique to one person vs another.

Most of our c suite works remotely. They go in for a luncheon and to shake hands about once a week, that’s all.

I don't even know for a fact that they work out of the office, I just know that they live in the city that my company is based out of. Everyone else lives scattered throughout the US. I have people on my team in California, Georgia, Maryland, and Texas (I live in Louisiana). But I'm in a unique situation as a consultant, my clients are in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, and California. So, even if I were to be in an office every day, I wouldn't be seeing the people who I perform work for.

I guess everyone's job is different but it would be pretty noticeable if I wasn't available on Teams and able to respond to requests fairly quickly other than if I was away at lunch.
Yep, there's still communication among colleagues/supervisor, meetings to be had, emails to respond to, etc.
I think HR can sometimes paint this picture that WFH means employees with their laptops shut having pool parties, when in reality, it just means more employee flexibility and improved employee morale.
Can you go grab lunch, do the laundry, run errands, watch a TV show when WFH? Of course. Can you go play 18 holes or go day drinking all day when you're supposed to be working? I seriously doubt it.

Our company has gotten so used to Teams that's how most people contact me when I'm in the office. I basically get dressed up, drive to work and go sit in a cube doing the exact same thing I'm doing at home

Yeah, I think that's the thing for me too. If I were going into the office every day because I was doing things that really needed face-to-face communication, then I wouldn't complain.
But, like you said, going in and doing basically the exact same thing you'd be doing at home? Worthless.

My situation is somewhat similar. There are people on my "team" scattered across the world. Same for clients. Even pre-COVID, I generally wouldn't meet these people face-to-face more than once or twice a year, if that.

It's cute you think if you're not "collaborating" you're in a "do-nothing email job"

Ahh yes wanting to efficiently work with team members means I have no life outside of work. Got it. Thanks I’ll do better and hide behind my email all day like most remote employees.
Exactly. I'd like a hybrid model or at least a fricking choice. It looks like the Walking Dead at my office. Empty cubes everywhere with people's name tags still on them, pics of their families still on the desk. We literally sent everyone home one day and they never came back.

it's cute you reply to that and not what i was responding to

What data? My personal experience?
Again, everyone is acting like the last 2 years are going to be the same forever. I strongly disagree that everyone's performance will stay increased forever with WFH.
I WFH all the time, I work for myself. I allow employees to WFH occasionally especially if they are sick or have issues. I allow it to be a benefit.
I also think applying it across the board to every industry is absurd. A lot of the guys boasting about it are in IT or engineering where they are in front of a computer and have 15 years of experience where the office doesn't give them much benefit. Absolutely, I agree to that.
But it also frankly pisses me off when people are WFH and have interruptions from kids, deliveries, etc. My time is valuable, and having a 2 year old constantly banging on your bedroom door when you are trying to sell me your platform is absurd. It wouldn't be allowed in an office, I don't care if you are WFH but you need to be keep the same level of professionalism when its needed.

There is it. Peak boomerism.

Where are these zero distraction open office spaces? In an open office, I can hear 50 different convos at once, I got doofus McGee near me talking to someone about fantasy football or some other bull crap, I feel like there’s more bullshvt meetings in an office than zoom call plus I can multitask in a zoom call, people are still goofing off in an office via phone, internet, ping pong table, throwing footballs around the place, let’s not forget when some brings their food out and now you have to smell it.
