I "got" retired at the end of 2024 after 36 years at the same company (Federal Reserve). Best of luck to you! It doesn't suck...

i retired 5 years ago at 55. this is the life. i had a very good plan in place 30 years ago to get to this point.. retirement is about quality of life. you must be mobile and active to enjoy the roses.

You’re the goat poster on here. We could all learn from your wisdom.

When did you hit your first million?

Congrats boomer.

I am fully expecting not to get to experience retirement, at least not in the traditional sense of never working again. I do not blame you or boomers in general, although you certainly did not help the situation. But I hope you recognize what you are getting is dying out for anyone other than the uber rich.

Enjoy retirement, but more importantly, have some compassion for those of us fenced out from getting to where you are by hard work alone.

can never understand that mindset

Then you have never worked for a company that forced you to take vaccinations, raped your benefits, changed every promise that they made when they hired you, promotes diversity over performance, and does not care about safety until there is an audit. I will do just enough to stay employed. Might even start stealing company property come to think of it.

I will never understand this mindset, also.

You have choices. Why choose misery?

You choose to work there. You choose to just get by. Seems like misery.

You could choose to not work there. Do something different somewhere else. Find your purpose, place and start making a difference.

Trading time for money (only) is quick path to shrivel the soul / purpose like a raisin. Short life. Very. Max you imprint on it! Don’t let yourself get trapped.

Locus of control…yours. Take it! Lead yourself to where you want to be.

Do it.

Victim mindset is weak.

Congratulations to you.

My day is coming soon. Just celebrated 30 years at my company. I turn 61 next week. My daughter (no pics) starts grad school in the summer, but we have the money already put aside for that. I used to love what I do, it is a non stressful job that pays well, but again, I don't enjoy it as much and I have a new boss that is a dick. Financially, I can do it now, but the big concern is health insurance. Do I take the easy money and 401k match for a couple of more years? That is what I am trying to decide, but again health insurance.

I hope you enjoy all retirement has to offer. I am sorry your wife will not be by your side.

I retired at 42 because frick yeah. No kids and no wife.

Then I sold out. Moved 2300 miles and started really living.

I’m alright at climbing so I took a job killing trees.

I’m 48 and way too old for this shite but I did it anyway.

Because I can.

This is my retirement:

Ride the gravy train until you get enough to not even worry about it. I am in the same boat but I am 54 and plan to ride the gravy until the one day I wake up and say it's time. I work about half the year so it's not like I work alot right now anyway.
