re: Restoring the family...old school values

My dad used to have his TVs set to lock out at 8pm because he had young step kids. I came home drunk a couple of times a week and would have to wake him up to get the password because I couldn't ever remember it.

I blame the drastic drop in the family unit on ending woman's suffrage and allowing them to vote. Traditional gender roles work for every other animal in the world. Why not us?

Not sure if you are serious, but:

"on ending woman's suffrage" is the opposite of "and allowing them to vote."

Suffrage = right to vote


Back on topic. Restoring/bolstering good values does not mean that eveything in the past was good, or better than today.

Segregation - bad.

Inequality for women - bad

Supporting family interaction - good

Recognizing and appreciating gender differences (while still respecting individual choice) - good

Sex is the issue here. More sex and everything would be ok. Electronics give women (and some men) excuses to not have sex now. Remove electronics from the bedroom and more secks will be had, and the divorce rate will drop since spouses won't cheat as often and couples won't go without love making nearly as long. Families will stick together more, there will be fewer single parent families. Poverty rate will drop because of that. Education and common sense will increase. Crime will be reduced. The economy will get better. World peace will be more likely

No electronics in bedroom = world peace

Agreed, I'm not sure divorce is really this destructive societal force people make it out to be (I say that as a child of divorced parents and someone who'd never ever get a divorce), but there is a statistically significant relationship between out of wedlock births and poor socioeconomic/educational status.

I agree with you to an extent. Electronics have certainly diminished the younger generations face to face communication. It has also made the younger generation impatient and wanting immediate results.

However, electronics have also done so, so much to help facilitate communications as well. From phone calls, text messages, e-mails, face time, skype, and so forth. It really is incredible that you could be all the way across the world and have the ability to talk to a loved one face to face (even if you are staring through a screen).

While I agree with what you are trying to say, no internet would have killed me in college. I remember spending hours at night researching papers in the library on databases, run by, you guessed it, the internet.
