my policy is I rarely tip over 20 dollars, even If the bill is $150 I still only tip 20.

Most of the time I get them same type of service if I had a 10 meal vs a 100 dollar one. they take your order and deliver your food.

Yeah they did but what about pouring a beer deserves 25%?

I am not saying they deserve 25% but I tip bartenders better than I would at a normal pick up at the counter type place. Idk it’s just different to me.

I usually write “here’s a tip, get a real job!” and leave a business card for the welding school

Yeah I usually do 20% just thought it was ridiculous to have 25% as the lowest preset option even for a bar.

Exactly. You aren’t serving me. You are bringing out a box of food. That I came and picked up.

You put a 5, maybe 10% auto option, maybe I select one out of convenience.

But if you are starting at 25% i’ll tip you nothing for your audacity. Don’t force my hand

That’s because it is ridiculous and yes, the expectation of a large tip has gotten out of control. Too many waiters expect a 20% tip when you sit down and get pissy wh n you inconvenience them into doing more that what they perceive you will tip them.

I always tip my server/bartender over 20% if they simply have a good attitude just because of the circumstance above

I am a generous tipper as a rule but have recently run into this exact situation (as in the OP) at my local morning coffee shop. I get a brewed coffee over ice. Nothing fancy, they grab a cup and hold it below the pot and open the spigot then throw some ice in the cup. Not tipping 25% or more for that. My reaction to the high minimum “suggested” tip is that they now get nothing. I find it insulting they are trying to force feed me a large tip and / or require me to “custom tip” a smaller amount as if I am some cheap arse. Really does kind of piss me off.

Seems like a nice little passive/aggressive overreaction.

you could do a custom tip but no preset tip was below 25%

So what's the problem? Is the math too difficult for you? Here's an easy trick that I use. Move the decimal over one spot to the left and double the amount to get 20%. Or increase by half if you want 15%. GL.

I knew a guy who used to sit a stack of ones on the table at the start and would take one away anytime someone ran out of something to drink, anything was wrong in the order, wait staff was rude, slow. he would tip what was left.

I guess it is the same way I keep straws if Im drinking mixed drinks to keep count.

Quit being a cheap a-hole.

I know 25% of $12 is so painful to pay

You’re talking about a 2 or 3 dollar cup of coffee. Does 10 or 20 percent really make a difference?
