re: Residents of Charleston's 2nd tallest building forced to evacuate over structural concerns

The fallout from that where condos over 2( I think) stories have to be inspected and upgraded as required is killing the condo market in FL.
The funds to fix older multi-story condos can exceed tens of thousands of dollars per resident.
It's a mess.

It's her attic! Ha!
$1M gets you a beautiful home in Scottsdale, in a desirable zip code. I've visited Charleston and lived in Scottsdale. There is no comparison between the two.

It looks like the design came from a architectural design bureau in 1960s Soviet Union.

The worst application of this “fancy” genre (imo) in the US is Boston’s City Hall also from the mid-‘70s.

Of course, where am I gonna live if I wanna spend alot of time on the water, fishing, enjoying seafood at the many dockside restaurants and bars, visiting the many primitive islands along the coast, not Scottsdale.
They both have their redeeming qualities IMO and I have enjoyed both. But these days people have to minimize / shite on everything when they should just keep their negativity to themselves.

Literally nothing impressive about it.

I completely agree

I guess the 1.7 ask on a condo there was what I thought was so ridiculous.
I didnt say Charleston was a horrible place; it isn't, but i certainly wouldn't place it as a "demand area".

Fair.
I should've said nor "1.7m condo" impressive.

Even if they're able to fix this, the assessment will likely be 6 figures for every unit. Who would be able to pay that out of pocket? And I doubt you'd be able to add it to your mortgage. Not to mention property values will be a fraction of what they were because no one will be willing to buy into the place. Really sucks for those residents.
I've been following the real estate market here for years and remember seeing units in this building come on and always thought, those balconies and views are great. Just don't want to share that many walls with our next place or pay what I assume are astronomical HOA fees.

Wait, what? You're saying this region isn't in high demand?

South Carolina was the fastest growing state last year and this region is right around top 20 in the country. Though the prices here have driven a lot of people up towards the Myrtle Beach area (which was #1 in the country a few years ago).
We're gonna buy a place, just hoping for prices to get under $600/sq ft on the peninsula

Myrtle Beach is full. The Yankees that moved here a few years ago are complaining about the Yankees moving here now.

I'm sure this map would be almost the exact same for Myrtle. For so hating conservatives and conservative values, these locusts sure have no problem coming to take advantage of our way of life.
One can only hope it's the convservatives fleeing these dem shitholes. I was one of them that followed that line from Chicago. I'm a political refugee.

The amount of Philly eagle fans that were out in Charleston nfc champ weekend was disgusting. And they were acting like the same ol assholes they are in the northeast. Everyone hates them
I’m hoping a lot of return to office initiatives by a lot of these companies force some of these douches to move back to the northeast.

There are 3 eagles bars that I know of. That day we were out for a walk and stopped into Sharehouse because a friend's band was playing (Midnight City). Quickly realized that that was one of the Eagles bars and we made our exit after one beer. People from that area are like the Palestinians...no one wants to take them in.

Or you could just let it ride and hope you or your family don't die when it inevitably collapses.
Infrastructure requires long-term investment in O&M. People got bamboozled by the condo developers into thinking they put aside enough money. If they included the legitimate long-term O&M costs in the HOA dues, they would sell less units or for less money.
