You seem to know a lot about the process. I appreciate that insight.
Are you a rescue guy as a profession?

In an absolute gut punch fashion, the girls write letters home while they are at camp. Those letters are starting to arrive at their parents' homes now.
I have a friend who, when she was dying, wrote a large stack of letters to friends, children, family. She put sticky notes on each envelope with a date to mail. Recipients were getting these beautiful letters from her moths after her death.

Not exactly, and certainly not "rescue" as in SAR or anything related to civilian disasters.
Hard skills are hard skills, and many are transferable across mission sets. Guys with those skills know how to employ them regardless of the context.
There are many former "dudes" in that part of Texas and very networked.
We were not part of the government's response, nor were we under any sort of official agency/authority. But not exactly normal civilian volunteers either (there were a LOT of those and they did an outstanding job).
Basically, we took some hard stuff off their plate so they could deal with the high-frequency/high-probability stuff.
I'd rather not say more than that. I'm not here to crow about it or get in pissing matches over silly stuff; but I know some people appreciate information and firsthand accounts, so I don't mind if I have something of relevance and the time to type it.

Thank you for serving those people. It is not an easy feat and is heartwrenching and hard physical labor.

what County were you in?

This article is a horror story. Chilling to say the least, but an incredible retelling of what one family went thru.

People have been finding stuffed animals in the flood area cleaning them up and posting pictures online so the families can claim them

Multiple along the Guadalupe. We had enhanced visibility and were extremely mobile, so we covered some ground.

that is terrifying and heartbreaking

What’s tough is that similar stories were played out hundreds of times that morning. Unreal.

Of all the reports/info/"heads up" we were getting that turned out to be less than 100% accurate, this is the one I was most hoping was a rumor.
Turns out it wasn't.

Came to post that. Gutting story. Hard to even imagine the heart break.

Why? I know they lost a child, which is horrific, but every other family member defied incredible odds and survived. Seems like they faired better than anyone who was in a home that got swept away.

Camp Mystic will never open again.

Relax, I’m not grading or ranking tragic events.
Like most reporting during an event, a lot of it is inaccurate or, at best, incomplete. Some of it is downright false.
In this case, this piece of information stood out as “man, I hope this one’s just a rumor” the most…to me personally.

Did you know the family?
