Boone County, Columbia, Mo. checking in.
We’ll have 94% totality, but it’s pretty impressive and clear as a bell from the front drive. Kids are out of private school for a teacher retreat, supposedly, lol.
I’ll try in 35 minutes to get the money shot, but has gotten significantly duskier outside.

Just saw totality... One of the most amazing things I've ever seen in my life.

Dang man, how close were you to totality?

We took the camper up to Arkansas for a long weekend of camping. Totality was incredible.

This.
It’s completely surreal and there’s no reference point to it for literally every other normal day of your life. It’s distinctly abnormal.

Yep, I'm in Central Arkansas. It was mostly clear. Got to watch the whole thing.

My family and I were in Terrell, TX to witness the event. And I have to agree, it was completely amazing.

Couldn’t be said more purely or more accurately. Seeing pictures of it is one thing, actually being in the middle of it and experiencing watching the shadow/darkness creep toward you and then looking up to see the corona of the sun in person was an absolutely majestic sight. Seeing the full eclipse of the sun in the full surrounding of where you are versus on a screen or in a picture is something that everyone should see given the opportunity. I understand, now, why individuals chase total eclipses. Four minutes in the path of totality is not enough.
It was worth every second and every penny spent to experience something with my family that I’ll probably never get to do again.

I actually feel sorry for all of the dads that planned a family event to travel and watch a 100% overcast sky get dark and then light again. We were lucky in SC 7 years ago to have totality and a clear sky….looks like today you need to be in Maine to have a shot at seeing anything.

It was awesome seeing the shadow creep towards you from a distance. It was unbelievable how you don’t look at the sun with your naked eyes through the whole partial eclipse. Then it gets dark and you look up and it’s like a black hole swallowed the sun with the corona shining around it.
I don’t think I’ll ever be as surprised again as I was when I looked up and saw that.

It is cool to see all the folks here who did get out and enjoyed experiencing it.
The cynicism of some miserable twats has been mostly drowned out.

quote:I've watched videos of 2017, but I really wasn't prepared for what I saw. It was a top 3 visual experience for me as far a nature is concerned. That yellow sliver is nothing compared to seeing the white Corona with the naked eye during totality. You could see red, blue and green elements almost like a jewelry display in that gorgeous gold/white light. It greatly exceeded all of my expectations.

ETA, we were in totality, sitting in the small town pavilion in New Boston, TX. Probably had 100 folks there, max.
First for me except for maybe a partial circa 1984 or so. But, first totality. Trip was the idea of my youngest son. He's always hauling out his telescope and finding stuff. He put in a request for this trip like 3 or 4 years ago. His first word when putting on his glasses and seeing the in-progress eclipse was a simple, "Wow."
The sacrifice we all made to get there from BTR was worth it.

My exact experience in 2017. I was excited and it absolutely blew my expectations out of the water.
