NEW ORLEANS - Several unhappy motorists were stuck on I-10 after a truck carrying thousands of nails spilled buckets of them all over the roadway.

According to a report from WWL, the incident occurred near the I-10/610 split Tuesday.

Traffic headed toward New Orleans from Metairie was backed up for several miles as the three lanes of traffic headed toward I-610 were being forced to merge with the three lanes of traffic on I-10.

Clean up crews were trying to sweep the nails off to the side, but rain was adding to the problems, making it hard to sweep them to the side.

A State Police spokesperson told WWL the driver responsible was charged with having an unsecured load.

WBRZ

What a disaster. There is no way these workers can get every nail.

I'm going to buy all the patch kits from autozone and then set up shop a couple of miles down the road and profit...

Pretty confident if they leave even 1 nail, my tire will find it.

Stories like this really hammer home how important it is to have a good spare tire in your trunk.

Too soon; making a nail joke at a time like this is tacky.

If you rolled through there you would probably need more than one. It'd be like spike strip that the cops use.

You would need some large magnets on sticks.

Reminds me of something that happened a while ago, before Katrina. They were expanding I-10 between Causeway and Clearview. I was driving through late at night and somehow a piece of metal ended up on the roadway. A car traveling in the lane next to me, a bit of ahead of me, hit the metal and somehow knocked it into my lane. I had no chance to avoid it. It flatened three tires and crack a rim. SOmehow, for the grace of God, I was able to get the car over to the shoulder.

I thought that there was a law that said you could only drop boxes of roofing nails on I-10 in Orleans Parish.

So much better at deflating tires that regular nails on their sides.

While on the interstate in TX, saw a roofer lose a few buckets of flat head roofing nails. Watched as quite a few people paid no attention and drove on through.

Up the highway, the roofer was pulled over to the side, with a patrolman talking to him, as were several cars with flat tires and angry drivers.
