There's a large amount of cultcha in Louisiana that really brings down the average citizen.

sounds like 3 good reasons they SHOULD join the military

What? The military is for home defense, not fixing shitty parenting and even shittier adulthood.

I don't want a bunch of dumb, fat arse criminals defending our country.

That really shows you what a low opinion of the military the members of this board hold.

I think arrogant douches like you do more to harm the public's view of the military.

True, but the people they are referring to are not red state minded people. They’re your people.

You don't have to be very smart to enlist in the military

And I know lots of people with criminal records (non felonies) that went into the military.

And I'm assuming boot camp/basic would take care of the fat part, and if not, they wouldn't be put into active duty.

Apparently not Louisiana levels of dumb, fat, and criminal though

Are you saying Louisiana white trash rednecks aren't dumb and fat?

Obesity and idiocy know no race in our great state.

The cost of college tuition is rising at an absurd rate.

While the value of a college education is being diluted at an also disturbing rate

I would say within 10 years you'd have to be stupid to pursue a college education unless it's absolutely required for your profession (and that applies to most people now)

Yeah, I always get a kick out of people trying to blame all of these things on the blacks.

As if other states have no diversity and Louisiana's white people are crème de la crème.

It is kind of funny how many people look down on the military in general. I didn't have any priors and tested fairly well on the ASVAB when I chose the Marines(semper fi brother) I took that experience, my post 9/11 and had a better resume than most of my peers and no collegiate debt...but yes I like to eat paint chips apparently.

I don't think anyone said all marines are dumb. But there are a lot of dumb marines.

I love how the military is this untouchable thing. People act like everyone who joins the military is some incredible person above reproach.

I thank every military person for their service to our country. And yes, lots of amazing humans join for admirable causes that defend our way of life. But lets not act like everyone is in that bucket.

How much did this study cost? Better not be more than $100. I could put together data on this in an hour

MajGen. Richard is a good man. Was at the Georgia game in Athens in 2013 with some friends of mine, where we were also visiting another friend who was about to go to Ranger school after leaving Georgia, and he and his dad know Richard so I ended up meeting him while at a TAF tailgate and he found out I basically a had shitty seat for the game so he had my ticket upgraded in about 45 seconds. At that point, I had been just a lowly college student but it topped off an amazing trip, and I was extremely grateful.

If TOPS ever goes, the military will become popular overnight.

not untouchable. I love the Bill Burr joke about the "Military Hero"

Just not a fan of people who like to generalize the entire group as a mass collection of uneducated people who chose to serve out of necessity and lacking any other options from the private sector or people who were incapable of getting into an institution of higher learning.

While that may apply to some, most of the people I have served with have an undergrad or some type of trade in addition to their service.

70% of Louisiana residents are fricking useless. The pool of potential employees in Louisiana is fricking embarrassing. The only people that stay after college are the idiots who haven't been plucked to go out of state by an employer.

The high school grads might as well be deported.
