Salary adjustments (specifically the lack thereof) and being forced to move out of TX has been quite stressful since I found out about it for sure...

I would quit before making this move

Yeah I've considered that strongly myself, but like I said the timing was such that I didn't really want to be jobless and living in ATX (it ain't cheap out here). Easy to say you'd quit but I like making career changes on my own terms and not scrambling to find something without income coming in.

but you do have to put up with crazy traffic on Hwy 90

Crazy traffic? Hwy 90 traffic is nothing compared to other places.

There is a big expansion going on at Monsanto. And seem to love to make deliveries during the morning and after drive time.

Still not as bad as most places. And there are ways around it. Going to Laplace? Take Barton to River Road and hop on I-310.

Yea I love Texas....San Antonio and the surrounding areas are one of my favorite places to visit. I also love getting out to Houston, Corpus, Galveston, DFW, etc. I love the Hill Country and all that comes with it. Hell I even like the Texas side of Toledo Bend better than the LA side.

Austin, TX is a cesspool in the midst of a great state.

Do you have a family, or are you single?

Single, and yes I have funds saved for such events but I'd rather not go into them except for absolutely critical emergencies.

I've enjoyed the time I've lived in Texas and I don't WANT to move back to Louisiana but I don't think its the death sentence that some of the posters in this thread are making it out to be. I could get a job back in California tomorrow if I wanted it but anywhere in Louisiana is better than being in Mojave California imo.

It's safe with great schools. It's close to Metairie/New Orleans and can drive to go do whatever you want there.

The rest of Luling out around the bridge is a pass for me

Ashton is better than the Willowdale area. No flooding concerns, newer and nicer. From reading this post it's obvious that most respondents really have no idea about the area. If you want to go to Mitch's New Ghanistan to party it's only 20 minutes away.

Ashton is also located right next to Paul Fredrick St. I would prefer not to live there but thanks.

Pretty much this. (and I'm not a liberal)

Though not sure I'd use "sad" as the descriptor, just someone whose values are way off.

A real geographical oddity.
