So due to a work relocation I'm having to move from Austin, TX back to Louisiana. I'll be working out of Laplace (and Belle Chasse to a lesser extent) and I've found a rent house in Luling that seems to be in a decent spot / is midway between both of the offices.

I was hoping to get the rants opinion on the area in general - remembering that this is just short term until I find a permanent spot. More than likely it will be somewhere in Prairieville / closer to Baton Rouge.

There's jack shite in Luling, but you're only 20 minutes away from work and only 20 minutes away from pretty much everything.

Sounds like a good deal for a temporary thing.

ETA: You're also 10-15 minutes from Mosca's. Some may tell you it's overrated but they'd be wrong. Just be sure to bring cash.

yeah yeah I know - the problem is that the availability of rentals in that area is REALLY slim pickings

and like I said, its short term - a year at the longest. These answers are kind of confirming what I expected so at least I'll be prepared.

Not really much to do in Luling but its a pretty safe area and St Charles Parish has pretty good public schools.

That would be a long commute to Belle Chasse.

Not sure why I'm answering this, as I haven't lived there since 1988, but I grew up in Mimosa Park and loved the area. Since then, the area has exploded and seems to be doing well.

Laplace is going to be the primary spot - Belle Chasse just occasionally when needed. The long term plan will involve getting another job around the BR area...

At least until I get an offer somewhere else, in the last 10 years have been in Baton Rouge, Houston, California, New Mexico, Austin and now back to Louisiana.

Well at least you are upgrading here....one of the only places in Texas that you could say that about....Austin is turning into a liberal cess pool.

yeah some coworkers advised me of that, I'll be on the "correct" side of Paul Maillard rd but unfortunately nothing was available in the Ashton area and since it was short term I likely wouldn't have wanted to outlay that kind of cash.

trust me, I did - you can go on zillow / trulia and the total amount of listings (with 0 filters) for the entire st. rose / boutte / luling / destrehan / hahnville area (for rentals) is under 15 listings, some of which are obviously sketchy.

If you can't tolerate liberals in a city that is booming, has great schools, awesome music scene, tons of stuff to do, and prefer to move to Luling, then you are a sad human being.

I could literally take that picture damn near anywhere along I-10 from Mississippi to Texas and beyond in both directions.

Yes, OP...there are, by my recollection, some pastures that have cows in them.

Just in case we forget, there are also some of these...
