Did you look into Norco or Montz?

Have looked everywhere around there. I have 0 interest in living anywhere around New Orleans (either bank - including Kenner or Metairie) so options were limited.

I'm not expecting it to be any sort of recreational paradise just wanted something safer than the NOLA city / suburbs with a decent commute. Proper accommodation will come later.

I do appreciate all the various answers and to be clear for one of the above posters - I did NOT have any desire to leave Texas and start paying state income tax and deal with insane home and or flood insurance again - the current job needs me to relocate so I had to do what I had to do. The time frame was too swift for me to realistically make a job switch.

I live in North Kenner, Chateau area, and I work in Belle Chasse. It takes me 45 mins to get to work and it takes me 20 mins to get to Laplace. There are plenty of nice apartments, in North Kenner, by the Grand lakes area. Could be a possibility for you. I know the OT has a hatred for Kennabrah but I love it out here.

I live in Laplace, work in Ama (essentially Luling). Why not just look for something in Laplace?

Wouldn't be my first choice.....but to get out of Austin...plenty of good hunting and fishing nearby.

Luling is not where you want to live.

There is plenty of places equidistance from Laplace to Belle Chasse that you should chose over Luling.

My brother works for the same place and he will be working out of the Belle Chasse office - so the desire was to find something equidistant from both locations.

I'm trying hard to look at the positives here, like the fact that I'll be closer to some friends and family that I've only got to see a couple times a year for the past several years and make it to more LSU games than I've been able to recently and also enjoy the food in Louisiana.

Salary adjustments (specifically the lack thereof) and being forced to move out of TX has been quite stressful since I found out about it for sure...

You like to fish? I hope so or you better be making bank for that move!

I think Luling is on a planet of its own.

Shut your whore mouth! Ama is God's country.

I live in Luling (born and raised in Ama). Lived in BR/Gonzales/Prairieville for 12 years before moving back to the area. There's a low inventory of rental homes because people come here to plant roots long-term. The area is very safe and full of families. As was mentioned, the school system is easily one of the best in the state. Sure there aren't many choices out there for entertainment in the immediate area, but you really wouldn't be that far from many options in Jefferson.

For me it depends on which part of Luling you are in. Yes, there are parts. If you are in the Mimosa, Willowdale, Willowridge area, then its a good area. The rest of Luling out around the bridge is a pass for me.

Luing is a good place to raise a family, if you live in the correct areas of it.

It is safe, the schools are very good, but you do have to put up with crazy traffic on Hwy 90.

Rentals are hard to find because housing it tight. There is more demand that supply.

I live in Luling will answer any questions best I can.
