Refrigerator making loud humming noise

There is a load humming noise that starts and stops randomly that is coming from the ice make area. It sounds like its either the actual ice maker or right behind it. Its still making ice, but there is not water coming out the dispenser.
I recent changed the water filter, but that did help at all.
I took off the bottom back cover and cleaned off the coils and fan, but not fixed.
Should I let it defrost? The refridge error code is showing H1 and per the brand, that means the freezer is too warm.

Mine was doing the samething It was ice build-up around one of the fans. It sounded like it was in the same area as you described. Took all the stuff out the refrigerator, shelves, etc. Took the back off from inside the frig and bam. I used a blow dryer, and now it's like new. Samsung brand

Use a thermometer to check the actual freezer temperature, if it’s normal then it’s not the compressor but if it is warmer than it should be you probably have a compressor issue. Hopefully it isn’t, especially if it’s a relatively new refrigerator because it probably won’t be cheap

Tesla has seen a lot of this. Take it in and they will swap it out for one build last year that has been sitting on their lot.

Mine was doing this for about a week and then shite the bed. Evaporator coil fan motor burned out. Cheap replacement but it’s basically the last thing you get to when taking the freezer apart so kind of a pain in the arse if that’s what it is

Does the melody of the "hum" sound anything like the song "America The Beautiful" ?
If so, then your fridge is very Patriotic.

quote:Probably this. The knocking will be intermittent loud, soft, or quiet. You can run to failure but may notice you can’t maintain 34°-38°.

YouTube how to change it. Inexpensive Amazon part.

Do some research online for your specific model. It may be a common problem with an easy fix.

I bought a Samsung that did this and come to find out that it was ice buildup that they knew was a continuous problem but didnt fix it. It got to the point that I just got rid of it and bought a new one.
I would try the defrosting thing first as that is what I had to do with the crappy Samsung.

There seems to be some helpful answers in here, but I can assure you, ChatGPT will be helpful as well. Just give an as detailed description of your problem as possible.

I've build up hitting the fan. It likely stops when you open the door?
This is caused by I've building up on the coils and could be a sign of early defrost failure

In a samsung its the hardest because taking the back panel off without braking it is really hard.
If it's really iced over I'll quote a new fan cover and all interior parts. Or tell customer they need to unplug their fridge for two days first.
Sometimes it takes well over an hour just to pull the rear panel off and you still break half the Styrofoam.

Check the fans to make sure it’s not icing up. This happened to me and I just ignored it, and came home to everything in my fridge room temp because the fan froze up.

I had that problem once with the sound. The sound is your maker trying to spout water and it isnt. My ice maker went out. Purchased the one that was equivalent to the one I had in the freezer on Amazon. Reinstalled and boom no more problems.
I mean is your ice maker making ice or not? I assume it isnt beings you said its not putting out water.
Not to say this is your issue but your description was what mine was doing.

I get a loud humming noise for about 15 minutes. During that time neither the freezer or fridge cools. Once it stops, it goes back to proper cooling. Ice maker is working just fine

you got a make and model on that bad boy?
curious because mine does it too and it drive me nuts
only additional clue i have is that when it's really making a racket, I have some frost buildup in the freezer
