Reducing Cox Internet Speeds

Holy shite. What a nightmare. Cox makes it super easy to upgrade any service online. However it's impossible to downgrade without calling. It's also close to impossible to see what rates they offer for less service because they don't even show it in their tool to change things around. I was able to log out and sort of see what they're charging new customers which is almost half of what I pay now. So I'm trying to talk them down to cut me a little bit of a deal either compared to what I'm already getting or to just reduce my speed and therefore my cost.
Well when you call in I get a crystal clear connection to someone who speaks perfect English. As soon as I say I'm trying to slow my speeds down or get a deal on my current speeds, I'm immediately transferred to a barely audible connection that is most likely some foreign telefarm. Unfortunately the guy and I can barely understand each other through the language barrier as well as the low quality audio signal. He says he can get me $5 per month lower. As soon as I ask but what about a price for a lower speed, I'm disconnected. I call back and same thing, initial operator is crystal clear. As soon as I want to spend less money I'm rerouted to a terrible connection and we can barely understand each other.
She then tells me it will be MORE expensive to get less speeds. I currently pay $70 for 150mb. She said it would be $80 to take it down to 30mb. She also pretty much lied to me and told me that 50mb wasn't a plan that cox offered even though I can see it on their website and the operator before me was telling me that's the next step down from 150. Also other people in my building currently have 50 so I know she's either full of shite or incompetent.
The worst part is AT&T only offers 18mb to my location so there isn't another viable option other than maybe satellite internet.
Tl;dr Cox sucks and intentionally makes it hard to spend less money with them because they know you likely have few options to leave them for.

The worst company I have ever experienced.

I tried to downgrade to 30mb recently because that's advertised on their website. The guy kept telling me that plan didn't exist so I had to go with 50. You can't go by what their website says apparently.

You basically have to tell them "I am leaving your service if you don't give me a deal." Then they all of a sudden scramble to find you something cheaper.

I'm not sure this applies in this thread, but....frick AT&T.

Do not go with AT&T. Take this as your warning. Do not do it

That typically works, but Cox called my bluff. Knowing they're my only option I had to backtrack. Embarassing.
I'm sure as soon as we hung up the customer service rep said "That's right, bitch."

Cox does suck. My parents were paying $267/month. They talked my father into a contract a few years back for phone, tv and internet and ballooned the $$ at contract's end. I walked into the store last week, handed them the phone modem and told them to lower the bill. Walked out of there with the highest tier tv and internet at just under $160/month based on a 12 month agreement.
TLDR-Go to one of their physical locations if you want to get anything remotely constructive accomplished.

I'd cancel out of spite.

"Welcome to COCKS Cable, how may I screw you today?"

I just switched to Cox because AT&T sucked arse. I am locked in my rate for 3 years. Will worry about that jazz when I get there.

I went to my local Cox store and the employees were as disinterested as can possibly be. Don't even look at the customer. Complete waste of time and effort. They could not care less about what I was trying to achieve. Possibly because I'm an old white man, but believe me, total crickets and almost disgust with my presence. It was as bad as an experience I have ever had as a patient CUSTOMER. I guess they pay off Jefferson Parish council people or something because they have it made in the shade. They are pathetic.
