I live in Denver. Every time we have guests over someone cries about a lack of recycling bin at my house. I kindly suggest if it means that much to them, they can collect and bring it with them when they leave. Ask me how many of them do that.

I feel like that is a large portion of the plastic we go through. Plastic bottles and milk jugs.

I’ve visited Vietnam a few times and I noticed that the locals reuse plastic bottles. For glass bottles, they send cases of it off to the soda distributors and they get cleaned and rebottled. Whole new definition of recycle.

Scam?
I can recycle 15 large black garbage bags of crushed beer cans and get enough back to buy an 18 pack of Miller High Life 12 oz cans.
Ain’t nothing wrong with that.
Have some to bring now but I’ll have to wait until JBE says I can go to the recycle place.
I do have beer though.
Stay safe, keep your distance.

It is hilarious to me that i would get charged to go out of my way to recycle. I'm the one doing the waste management people a solid by giving them free raw materials. why should i be the one to pay extra for it.

If they want to lower my bill b/c i recycle, then i'd opt in.

no longer takes glass
only #1 or 2 plastic
they want you to rinse all of the items
not really worth it any longer.

Most people probably realize most thing aren’t actually recycled. But since I have a recycle bin and the recycle truck picks it up, why wouldn’t I use it? 10% is more than 0%.

I read yesterday that every plastic that was ever created is still on earth due to how long it takes to decompose.

My mom always bitches when I don’t wash out my spitters before putting them in recycling. It’s just prisoners working at the recycling place, right?

It 100% just makes people feel better about themselves. Aluminum is probably the only thing that is worth recycling (someone who has knowledge of the costs can prove me wrong)

Glass is made from sand. You know how much sand there is in the world? Yet people in my office will flip their shite if I throw a glass bottle away

Not always true, but I don't think that's the point/reason...

We did a plastic recycling drive at St. Benilde school in Metairie. We had a dump truck of plastics, and the recycling center gave the school a lousy $20 check for all that plastic!

I go out of my way to not recycle. Usually I just throw my crap out the car window. Much easier that way. One time me and a buddy rented a U-Haul filled with plastic straws and drove to Grand Isle and dumped it in the ocean, just to prove a point

Well, 10% is actually getting recycled. Not great but still better than nothing.

Actually, it isnt. The energy used for the recycling process is a net negative compared to what is reproduced in that process.

ETA: i believe only aluminum and glass are recycled at a net positive energy-wise. Paper and plastic is actually worse to recycle.

Kind of like ethanol but heaven forbid we end corn subsidies in Iowa.

The juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze on this one.
