Dupont and the boys pulled a great one over on the public. 90% of the plastic you put in the bin ends up in a landfill. The recycling symbol is complete bullshite l. Paper is even worse.

Frontline did a great expose on this. I have been trying to tell my recycling environmental friends this for years. Just like the sugar companies misdirection campaign convincing everyone that fat not sugar was causing the Obesity issue. It’s total bulllshit.

You can recycle plastic soda bottles, water bottles, milk jugs, glass bottles and really that’s about it. The rest is “mixed plastic” and goes to landfills, and always has, and always will.

The recyclable paper issue is even worse, since China quit buying it in bulk years ago.

Yep. It makes people feel better though. Mine is just used as an overflow trash can.

I feel like that is a large portion of the plastic we go through. Plastic bottles and milk jugs.

Also, we just try to avoid single use stuff when we can. That's the real answer.

I am so thankful for my community’s recycling program. Weekly, they pick up a big blue bin using a truck with a robot arm. Need to get rid of old paint, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, etc? Problem solved!

Well, 10% is actually getting recycled. Not great but still better than nothing.

Aluminum is the only thing it really makes any sense at all to recycle and even there it's questionable.

Watch the link above, and just put stuff that can actually be recycled into the bin if you want too. If everyone did that, we would all be better off by .00007%

I’ve run the Recycling Programs at two Refineries in South La and can tell you, it costs more to recycle than to landfill. The state doesn’t force anyone here to do it.
We put paper recycling bins in each and every office ( to make the company feel good) and the janitorial services just trashed it with regular waste. Plastic bottles, the same. At least they’d throw the aluminum cans in scrap metal bins.

They were actually charging us 20 bucks a month in Mobile to recycle, that was it for me. I used to recycle aluminum cans etc years ago when I lived somewhere else.

Why am I not surprised the OT hates recycling, even if 10% actually is recycled.

I’m just surprised China is grinding the plastic up and putting in pet bat food.

Whats the environmental impacted collecting and sifting through the 90% of shite you can't recycle to get to that 10%? I doubt it's worth it to recycle 10%.
