LSU's admissions committee is going to have some tough decisions this year and in the future.. do they admit the kid from Texas with $$$ or do they try to educated their own residents for free.

It’s kind of been this way for a while. Louisiana kids are normally the last accepted to LSU. Some aren’t told until March or April.
My child ended up at State, even though she was accepted to LSU, because the process was fricked up.

There is no clearly defined benchmarks for acceptance to LSU. Some kids get accepted sooner with lower grades and lower ACT than kids with higher grades and scores.
And the whole ACT not being required is ambiguous horseshite. We all know why. LSU needs to establish a % of kids they want from LA. Figure it out. It shouldn’t be difficult.

Hell, Alabama has been sucking up the out of staters for a decade. Northeasters and Midwesters love coming down south for frat/sorority and football shite.

That's completely irrelevant without numbers. You could spend less at UT than at Blinn with the right scholarships.

My point was that with a 4.0, and a good resume, you can get in to any SEC school. No DEI points here either. Her 2nd choice was Auburn. I would have been good with any school. It was her choice. A&M would’ve hurt though.

My experience with a kid who just started college this past fall - LSU could give a shite if your in state kid goes to school there. They have tops. That’s LSU’s entire pitch.

My kid goes to another SEC school and just about every SEC school was more interested in my kid than LSU.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but that’s how LSU is these days. Maybe every school does the same - goes hard on out of state kids.

People downvote, but I’m dealing with this right now with a kid in high school north of Dallas

My kid and all my kids' friends, nobody is getting into Texas and about 20% are getting into A&M. Our friend's kid was top 1% and got into Texas but not the business school.

I swear every kid I talk to has applied to LSU, Arkansas, and OU instead. My kids friend last year had to take summer school just to pass and graduate and got still got into Oklahoma.

Also, Arkansas and LSU are being very generous in out of state aid. 80-90% off out of state tuition

Not a surprise. In a state of 32 million people the 2 most desired publics are going to be a tough get. MS has 2 but only 2.9 million people.

Some of the big Southern flagships are booming. Alabama of course(football), Ole Miss, Tennessee and LSU are booming. Kids from the northeast are now applying to these schools in record numbers. Hell don’t be surprised when Alabama goes to 70% out of state.

Campuses are also taking more kids to add to revenue. All these schools are building dorms everywhere and giving waivers to live off campus your second year.

The sorority show on Netflix about bama sorority girls exploded and everyone up north wanted to come do the southern charm Greek shite. Of course every guy is applying to after that.

For most young people going to college has little to do about career prep. It's more about delaying responsible adult life for 4 or 5 party-filled life after HS. Things have been that way for a very long time. The more uncertain the immediate future looks, the better the college option looks.

Exactly, especially with AI taking so many jobs

I can’t believe so many parents pay double tuition for out of state just so little Madison or Jaxxson can keep up with the Joneses.

Pay an extra 150-200k for the same degree is the worst investment you can possibly make

The LSU Brand is cool nationally combined with high acceptance rate and relatively low cost makes LSU desirable to many families from around the country. For the last 15 years or so LSU prioritized attracting out of state students. Landry has placed a mandate on LSU's new leadership to put Louisiana first. It seems like more attractive scholarships are being offered to 2026 Louisiana kids than previous years.

I was waived out of state at LSU after transferring from UT in 08-11.

Graduated from a TX high school as well.

When I was applying to schools I know I added ULL and ULM that offered me scholarships even though i didn’t apply to make my number look bigger. Plenty of petty students (yes I was one of those) care about total scholarships granted and compare it to friends.

Yep I can validate this statement…my son is just one example from last year. Doesn’t regret his decision at all.
