Recommend a good commuter car.

I drive 90 miles a day round trip for work. Thinking of buying a commuter car. History says the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla run forever and easily go 200,000 miles plus. What other cars are as reliable? Only thing I know so far is to avoid anything with a CVT transmission.

You’re not proper OT height if you can comfortably drive these.
But really, I don’t think many sedans nowadays will give you problems esp if it’s highway miles.

Mother in law has a 15 year old Honda Civic.
She has been retired for about 12 years and so her part time job is one that she checks some stuff on store shelves for a company and it takes up like 4 hours a day for her just so she stays busy.
Anyway, the point to this is that she uses that civic as her work car. I’m not totally positive how many miles it has on it but i know there is over 150,000 and it runs perfectly fine.

I lost some government contracts during the shutdown and had to layoff my pilot. I know life is tough white people problems

Some people would say since they spend so much time in a car, they want a nice one.
I would not. I would look for the most reliable and cost effective vehicle possible. ’d look at depreciation, best financing I could get on a new one, best MPG, warranty (assume you’re buying new or certified pre-owned), and then maintenance costs.
Probably Honda Accord. But the Kia/Hyundai warranties are hard to beat.

If you are looking for a compact car with a standard automatic tranny then take a close look at the Mazda 3. So many of the sub-compacts and compacts now have CVTs. IIRC the Mazda 3 is the highest predicted reliability by CR with your criteria.

I’d grab a new model civic w the Honda sensing package. If you commute 90+ miles a day, you’ll bless the engineering Gods for adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist

If you can find someone that didn’t sell back their Jetta TDI and is willing to sell...buy it.

I travel ~70 miles every day and went the commuter car route and regretted it. In my Nissan my rear end was lower than my knees and it began to hurt my back. I traded it in for a SUV and never looked back.
MPG is not everything for a commute.

ford focus, you cant beat 40 mpg if you drive a lot
but underpowered as shite to get that mileage so dont expect to be spending a lot of time in the fast lane on interstates

We moved and now have to commute to the office (we work together and previously both worked at home). Jeep gets horrible mileage so we picked up a cheap 2013 4 banger accord to beat on. Liability insurance is $19 a month. It’s been a great decision. 34 mpg is our average.

Not a bad idea. I know someone who commutes from DeLisle to New Orleans in one of those.
