Almost as nuts as how fast it gets hot as you dig deeper.

The rock’s ambient temp around the mine is around 151 degrees F. They have to pump down an ice slurry from the surface to regular temps.

The Kola mine stopped because the pressure, rock density, and temperature resulted in the rock acting more like a plastic making deeper drilling impossible.

To get to the inner core, you have to drill 1802 miles. We've gotten down to 40k ft. 1802 miles is more than 9.5 million feet.

Put another way, if the depth to the inner core of our earth were the freedom tower (1776') height and we were trying to climb it, Tacko Fall would still be looking down at us.

This planet of ours is truly amazing.
