I help them escape over getting killed.

He should get a nice settlement from the prison that put him in a position to have his life threatened by dangerous criminals.

Incompetency is found at every level in NOLA.

Were the prisoners moved into another locked/secured area at least?

You think maintenance workers are alone with prisoners?

Guards are barely alone with prisoners.

That's in a facility run by competent people.

Doesn't apply for OPP.

It's probably folly to pretend to know how things were actually operating in this place or to think they were always operating the way you would believe a typical jail would operate.

Outstanding use of the word folly, imho.

I was once locked up in orleans parish prison and I can 100% confirm there was times I went multiple days in a row without ever seeing a single deputy or employee.

I had my money on a fat white female guard that was nailing one or more of the inmates.

They’re all understaffed. I worked on a movie at a prison in Southern La a decade ago and had entirely too much exposure to the inmates. They were talking shite to me a bit, but they were really going at a now WWE Superstar who also was smart enough not to do shite about it.

Budget cuts trump protocol.

He said he was threatened to get stabbed if he didn’t help, so he did what they asked.

Assuming that’s true:

What do you do?

What should his punishment be?

he'll be forced to testify against those that threatened him in exchange for a deal. He will still be prosecuted, difference will be how much time he actually serves and where he serves it..

Exactly.

But back to my OP. Should thi guy face criminal charges given the circumstances? There’s a very real possibility he would have been killed if he didn’t do what they wanted.

Yea I think so. But he was a contractor. It sounds like they were not moving prisoners for maintenance workers.

Too much unknown information.

Did he report it the second they were gone?

Is there any proof they had access to him to threaten him?

Did he have any prior connection to them?

I’m leaning charge him. He’s obviously too stupid to be free.

Yes hypothetically let’s say yes

No except for just being a maintenance worker in the jail, let’s say hypothetically

That was a joke. But for this to be true, he has to be really dumb.

No. That’s my issue with his story. Didn’t even have to be that second. It was hours before the jail knew they were even missing. I’m not even sure he ever reported it until confronted.

Is he responsible for jail security? No. Is he responsible for their escape? Yes.
