This summer we are getting a new (or possibly previously owned) smaller SUV. We have a Highlander now and love it, but want a smaller kind this time around.
Criteria:
No American makes.
Warranty.
Price factor.
Not necessarily entry level base models.
Like in order - Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda... Hyundai, Kia... what else?
Experiences, anyone? Suggestions?

3.6L Outback is better than everything you listed. Same ground clearance as a Wrangler. Superior AWD. Crazy cargo room for a wagon. The CVT is my only complaint. 30mpg highway is doable. Tows 3000lbs. That's 2X most crossover types. It also looks sharp.

If you need a warranty, may as well buy new.

If you are buying a CRV or RAV, chances of you using a warranty are miniscule.

We were in the same market this summer, but CRV was out, because my son's girlfriend already had a CRV. Ended up getting the Hyundai Tuscon. Great little car and very highly rated. Also, has one of the best and longest warranties in the business.

I got a Subaru Forester in September and would highly recommend it. I've loved it so far.

Mazda CX-5 is the highest rated in its class, and they run well for years with minimal maintenance. I'd also suggest the Subury Forester/Outback as others have mentioned.

Both the CRV and RAV4 are good, but unexciting, vehicles.

My wife had a Honda CRV and it was the best vehicle we've ever owned. Was involved in a pretty bad accident held up like a champ.

CX 5 - We research and picked the CX 5 based on ratings/value and reviews. No issues and very happy with our choice.

My wife drives a Mitsubishi Outlander. We just got one loaded for right at 26k. Crazy room and lots of bells and whistles.

But it's a Mitsubishi. I thought only people with under 500 credit scores bought Mitsubishi. I didn't even realize they were still in business.

Bought a 2014 CR-V, bought extended warranty (7yrs, 100k miles) kinda against my better judgement. Good thing we did. Fast-forward to 2016, entire power steering assembly went out and had to be replaced. Cost me zero out of pocket.

Just get a new Highlander. You won't like the smaller crossovers after the newness wears off.
