Nothing quick about it. Confederate troops frequently fought Union troops and generals at 3 to 1 odds and often won. Four grueling years. 25% of the combatants casualties. A fratricidal bloodbath of attrition the North finally won.
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain's Passing of the Armies is a different perspective from yours. He's a Medal of Honor winner who fought against Confederate troops at Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. His description of the surrendering Confederate units forming up and marching to stack arms and lay down their unit standards is stunning.
Everyone who casually throws around the term traitor referring to Confederate troops and is dismissive of their feats of arms should read him. He earned the right to call them traitors and dismiss them as warriors and choose not to do so.

I know tongue in cheek but it's funny to me. The u.s. is the strongest nation the world has ever known, which wouldn't be the case had the confederacy won, but some southerners still have an axe to grind 150 years later. It's funny, and weird.

Southerners love to tell themselves fairytales about the civil war but at the end of the day they were treasonous losers fighting for the rights of rich white guys to own black people.
And those tough good old boys got put in their place real quick by a bunch of Yankees who weren’t even ready to fight. The entire ordeal is so embarrassing to the South in so many ways.

You don't have a clue what you're talking about. It was a very near thing for the North at a couple of points, and if you knew your history you'd realize it.
As it is a combined 620, 000 dead and untold maimed, and scars that remain even today. That's more than all other wars America has fought in combined. You talk about it like it was some weekend lark. Our involvement in WW2 was about the same length of time. Was that quick? The US wasn't ready to fight in that one either.
Post less, or know what you're talking about. The Civil War was a brutal, bloody hard fought mess to the bitter end. It took two good men(Lee and Grant) to bring it to an end. I don't justify all the reasons they fought. It wasn't ALL over slavery. One mistake we make is using our ethics to judge people from the past.
I doubt we could withstand similar judgement from them, were they here today. They would probably be horrified at some of the things they would see from modern society, and damned if I could blame them for some of it.

My great great grandfather was in one of the Wisconsin regiments. They fought in nunerous battles, including BR. I have a great photo of him sitting in front of the US flag that was made by my g g grandmother and carried into battle. We had that flag until recently...donated to the local museum.

You think you’re being edgy and cool when actually you’re just proving your ignorance as a soy boy, wannabe elitist, liberal.
You have very little understanding of anything beyond your bubble and it shows.
Wow you’re embarrassing. Change your logo so none of us need to be associated with you regardless of how minor that association may be.

If General Lee had decided to fight a war of attrition through guerrilla warfare, he would've made Lincoln's arse quit. Lee was already a tactical genius that won the Confederacy quite a few battles that the North had more men and resources in and guerrilla warfare would've taken his tactical acumen to a whole new level that would've been hell on Earth for the North.
But he didn't do that because he was too decent and honorable and saw guerrilla tactics as a cowardly way to fight.
God bless General Lee. What a hero he was for defending his land and his people and he's everything that makes the south great.

Did you get your interpretation of history from a 12 year old? Is this public school education?

Never read a bit of history of the Civil War, have you?
The North got its arse handed to it for most of the first year and a half of the war.
And you consider 4 years as "real quick"? LOL

Not really. You had major Confederate victories at First Manassas/Bull Run in July 1861, Wilson's Creek in August 1861, and Ball's Bluff in October 1861, but after that the North went on quite the winning streak.
By late-spring 1862, the Union army held all of Kentucky, all of western Tennessee, most of the Mississippi River, portions of the North Carolina coast, as well as the cities of New Orleans, Nashville, and Memphis, and all of northern Virginia.
And with McClellan mere miles from Richmond by the end of May, most observers thought the war would be over within a matter of weeks. Robert E. Lee, to his credit, changed all of that.

Whatever the case, what you call “traitors” had children , grandchildren and great grandchildren who defended this country in the following years. My father and mother were part of the greatest generation who were descendants of so-called “ traitors”. We would have never beaten the Germans or the Japanese without the combined efforts of the men and woman of both the north and the south.
