I've lived in four of these. Louisiana is my favorite because there's no where like it, but when looking at quality of life, economy/opportunity, uniqueness/culture, etc., I'd say:

1. Mississippi (worst)
2. Alabama
3. Arkansas
4. Kentucky
5. Missouri
6. Louisiana
7. South Carolina
8. Tennessee
9. Florida
10. Georgia
11. Texas (best)

I guess I'm just not sure how you can substantiate that. What isn't there to do in texas that there is to do in the others?

Actually, I'll caveat my prior statement. I tend to think of Texas as Dallas and Houston. Austin is decidedly is not boring (although I think it's overrated and that's a different discussion).

In general, I think Georgia and Houston/Dallas are similar in that they're uninteresting places to visit and good places to live. Houston and Atlanta have a lot of the same challenges. Dallas is the better place to live, but IMO is the dullest of the three. I think it trails significantly in most cultural respects, but is the most "pleasant" overall.

I would take Atlanta over Dallas for drinking scene, food scene and authenticity of urban redevelopment. Dallas probably has a better overall art scene, but neither are doing all that much in art and music right now. Atlanta had a far stronger music scene in the 90s than now, and I'm unaware of Dallas ever having a great music scene.

Using Atlanta vs. Dallas, I think Atlanta is more dynamic than Dallas, IMO. It's also shittier than Dallas in many ways, partly because we're overflowing with douchey millennials from all over that are leading the way in the aforementioned metrics of urban reuse, dining, and drinking. Dallas has douchebaggery too, but ours is more varied, I think.

Atlanta also has a more rich social fabric, which, again, means good things like history, cultural influence, etc., but also controversial things like diversity, racial tension and the like. That's what I'm getting at in saying Texas is dull. Dull doesn't necessarily equate to bad, and on the exciting/dynamic vs. nice place to live scale, I tend to fall with the latter in my preferences, honestly.

There isn't a stretch of coastline in Texas that even comes close to those in Florida.

For a TN guy you sure do suck. Why all the hate for LA? Show us where the Cajun touched you.

Obviously everyone has different opinions, but I think we can all agree that Mississippi is definitely the worst.

Your coastline is shite. The sliver of good beach you have is a long haul away, your mountains are far away and ugly, and your two biggest cities are hot and flat.

I love the hill country, but I don't think it makes up for the other deficiencies. Georgia can't really compete with FL for beaches or TN for mountains, but I think we're the most well rounded in the landscape argument.

You your opinion is shite. Remember when you claimed based on my comparison Bentonville blew Kenner out the water when it didn't?

No?

Kenner has lost 6% of its population since 1990
Bentonville has grown 186% since 1990

Kenner has a total population of 50,558
Bentonville has a total population of 42,953

Crime Risk in Kenner is 480
Crime Risk in Bentonville is 58

Median Age in Kenner is 37.21
Median Age in Bentonville is 30.37

Household Income in Kenner is $68k
Household Income in Bentonville is $66k

White Collar jobs in Kenner is 59%
White Collar jobs in Bentonville is 65%

College Educated in Kenner is 10,200
College Educated in Bentonville is 11,261

Mind you, this isn't factoring all of Kenner, LA. There are two zip codes. The other, shows an average income of $44k/year. Has lost 14% of its population since 1990. Only 50% white collar jobs. Has a 720 crime risk, and has an average home value of $122k.

SO yea, just on crime alone and income potential for the area....you lose

10. Texas- same as #9 without crooked politicians

former governor, now Secretary of Energy, and current AG are both under felony indictments, current Ag commissioner faces possible charges of misuse of public funds, Dallas county commissioner is currently on trial for misappropriation of funds, accepting bribes, and so on, LA by no means has the market cornered on crooked politicians

I think you can make an argument for LA over Ark overall, but I agree that NWA is the best all around region between the two states.
