There was nothing on Bluebonnet except Swaggart's and an Exxon. Siegen was a 2 lane road out in the country. I remember when they moved OLOL from downtown to Essen...and there was hardly anything on Essen besides channel 33.
I remember when College Drive was two lanes and was a huge open field (with maybe one building) from Perkins to where Fairway View Apartments are.
That one building was a radio station (I think it was WXOK) with a Quonset Hut and an antenna.

Kenilworth shopping center had Winn Dixie, K&B and TG&Y.
We would ride our bikes there, grab a magazine from K&B, smoke cigarettes along the side of the building then ride up to the Circle K around the corner to play arcade games. Can still remember the smell of trash and itallian food from the alley behind Giovannis.

TG&Y would've been there before I was biking there but I remembered it as little kid. Winn Dixie I think was Super Fresh and A&P before. Milano's pizza was also there for a while . We started biking there around 1989-1990 from Mag Woods.

I also remember in the Drusilla shopping center there was a Fast Track nearby. Also by the shopping center was a place called Johnny's Pizza which was pretty good from what I can remember.
In the 90's there was a couple of pizza places that were pretty good...I think they were called Pepporoni's or something. They had these cinnamon glazed desert sticks that were awesome.

Chelsea’s being at the north gates. Awesome place then.
North Gate was so much fun back then. Murphys, Chelsea's, the Varsity, all the little dive bars along Chimes...bunch of different places that catered to different crowds..

There was a crack house on the corner of E. Boyd and Burbank where Sonic is now
Thought that was just regular cheap college housing. Had one hell of a party there at a friends house after the landlord gave them eviction notices and said that they were demoing the places.

Louie’s used to be open all night. The best breakfast food at 2am.

I still vividly remember the sound and smell of walking out Tiger Stadium in 2002 after beating Arkansas.

The opening band for Cowboy Mouth that night wasn’t bad. It was none other than Maroon 5, who was largely unknown at the time.
I was there also. The varsity used to snag some excellent acts, many of them nationally known who would book a weekday gig between larger venues on the weekends. I miss those days.

The music scene was really great around 95-2005. Lots of live music around campus bars.
In the 70s, 80s, and early 90s, every major band on a major tour would make a stop at the PMAC. If you go back and look at the LSU Gumbo yearbooks, they would usually have a section on the bands/acts that actually came to campus. During that period, I doubt you could name a major act that didn’t come to the PMAC.
And if you wanted good tickets, you had to camp out on the ramps.

You have to go to Port Allen to get booze on Sunday morning.

The Jack in the Box on the north gate of LSU used to be a Popeyes. And every know and then they ran a special of 20 wings for $5.
This is not an interesting story, but it might have been right when that jack and the box opened.. This was at least 20 years ago, but I remember the 1 and only time I went to that Jack in the box, it was me and someone else and we ate in there and there was this little black kid.. 3, 4 years old who just came sit at our table just looking at us. The person with me went to the counter to tell them there was a kid at our table who wasn't saying anything.
The mother of the kid, who worked at Jack in the Box said "oh thats my son. He okay".
We hurried up and ate and left and the kid stayed there the whole time. I remember being kind of pissed about it. I understand if she didn't have anyone to watch him, but I don't want random kids coming to my table while I am eating. I am not a huge fan of Jack in the Box as it is, but I sure as hell wasn't going back to that one.

You can get a glorious free meal at TJ Ribs if you act interested in becoming a Primerica executive manager/slave.
