If you feel tipping is MANDATORY it should be included in the bill otherwise it’s the customer’s choice

No, this is entirely about tipping. If you give someone the option to pay two difference prices for the exact same thing and they choose not to pay more, why is that the biggest concern? The owner complained about being able to pay the staff. He was given a great answer: raise your prices, as any business would do. Having to bank your entire business on customers subsidizing your employees' wages is a pretty wild concept to wrap your head around.
Didn’t read but disagree

Amen. I don’t care if I have to hold up the whole line five minutes to find the no tip button, I’m marking it zero. No tips if I'm paying in a line.

the owner is lucky he didn't eat half the meal and ask for a refund

quote:I don't know about that. Servers spend half their shift standing around the alley or bullshitting at the drink station while I'm running to the walk-in every few minutes. Not to mention other work BoH does, like unloading the truck, cleaning and closing the kitchen, banging the servers, etc.
FoH walks about 50 steps for every 1 of BoH.

You really don't need a study for this. Go in any seafood restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night. You will see large numbers on non-tippers.

Nope. Kitchen makes full wages. Only servers make less base.
Tips have gotten insane. A tip is for working hard to serve my table, period

I need more info about the OP's video. If it was a sit down place and he didn't tip then that's fricked up. If it was takeout then I'm on the videoer's side.
But regardless of all of that, that server following that dude around for several minutes and several blocks is out of line. He's lucky he didn't catch an arse kicking or worse, especially when he started being aggressive and yelling in that dude's face talmbout how he's gonna slap the shite out of him.
(trying to work talmbout into my vernacular when I can)

What is the difference in a restaurant putting a price on the menu and then insisting you tip on top of that And all the fees that the hotels and airlines have on top of posted fees?
They should get rid of the “tipped” minimum wage just like they should get rid of hidden fees… Show me what the total cost is upfront

Many years ago, there was a smattering of cases around East Texas alleging that black customers were discriminated against. The first one that went to trial was defended by a friend of mine. The defense theme was basically "customers who tip and treated better than customers who don't". They also pointed out that this is true for a lot of things, e.g. "customers who are polite are treated better than customers who aren't."
The defense lawyer, who I know, lucked out. Three prospective jurors were former restaurant servers. One of them, a black woman, said (during voir dire) that she didn't like to wait on black women because they are demanding and often don't tip."
At the end of voir dire, the case settled for a little bit of money. The "discriminatory shopping" cases seemed to just fade away.

This fricking dumb take again. It’s a custom. It’s not relevant how much they get paid. One can assume they don’t get paid much, though, because just about anybody can do it. So it’s a custom to give a tip. And people
Get acCUSTOMED to it.
Get acCUSTOMED to it.
