You can't judge the entire country off of Cape Town which is by far the nicest and safest city in SA. Take a trip out to Pretoria and report back. I've been to SA several times.

Disease, which no one fully understood or planned for, did the bulk of the work. The Indians were decimated before the Europeans came here in any real numbers.
And the ones you call “native Americans” came from Asia and slaughtered the previous inhabitants...
They had been warring and slaughtering each other for land and game and women forever.
Don’t hate Europeans because they found a way to be more efficient at war. Because we won a technology race.
Because Africa and most of the Americas never developed the wheel or other vital things.

This is my answer EVERY TIME ppl bring up Indians. They were killing each other over land and then here comes Player 2 who enters and wins the game and now the descendants of those ppl are supposed to feel bad? ppfftt

Wow guy you are incredibly naive. Cape Town is like Malibu fenced off from a war zone. I've visited SA, I've worked with many people from SA and I have good friends who live in SA. I strongly advise you not leave the Cape Town area.

Settler colonial states definitely committed but the American settler project was different for many reasons. It was definitely genocide by any modern definition. I could write a long post on why it was genocide, and what made it different from other settler colonial states, but it's not worth my time on this board.
It's remarkable to me that the National Party's decision-making in the 1940's and beyond gets almost no criticism in these threads. They had a passive ANC who was committed to non-violence (at that time), and had a massive demographic challenge which they could not understand. Nor could they wrap their head around the commitment that people like Mandela had to equal rights. This is not to excuse bigotry toward white people in South Africa now, but to illustrate that things did not have to be this way. Botswana, a country with demographics mimicking SA's, has not suffered the degree of violence SA has, because the source of the government-imposed racial animus doesn't exist. It went in an entirely different direction than SA, and has prospered (relatively) for it.
