This is exactly the incisive retort I’d expect from you. You quietly quit on that one, baw. You can do better.

Pretty, pretty good, SFP.

We disagree on this, but you’re a solid poster.

largely because i have nothing else to say. boomers ruined this country and my generation has to deal with every single one of their massive frick ups. and then they have the gall to blame us for everything

yall are the cause of every issue that we have to deal with. that is all

From 2004-14 I worked as a paramedic and one day just walked out. I've done landscaping ever since. I remember having enough and walking out and that was when times were much better. Reading a report a few months ago and call volumes from last 5 years are up 30% while there are 20% less paramedics and EMTs available. That report came out in 2020 in the middle of Covid so I imagine it's worse now.

We were constantly being told things would get better but they never would hire more, no matter how much the city grew, heck, more it grew, smaller our department became. Wasn't worth it to me. Frick ever doing that job again, promise I added a decade to my life quitting, regret every minute of doing it and felt I was truly good at it.

Baw, I believe you.

It’s harder now than it was.

Two things:

1). For some of us who were born holding the shite end of the stick, it was far harder than it will be for the average person today.

2). Even if it is harder, you shouldn’t quit.

Oh, the people who admit to doing just enough to keep their job do better work in general than the people who get raises and promotions?

God bless this dumbass thread.

I think this is a healthy trend honestly.

But stop acting like those who made the sacrifices are somehow responsible for your curtailed lifestyle.

right. part of the healthy detachment of self-worth from work is not allowing others' status/success within your workplace to upset you when you don't have the same lifestyle as them.

There's also no shame in getting the most out of your abilities, growing in your career, and being in the fortunate minority who generally enjoy and excel at their job.

It’s a smaller minority than it should be. And that is often due to a lack of imagination and an atrophied risk tolerance.

Agreed. Growth only comes from believing in yourself and the vulnerability of trying. If you find yourself excelling, you're more likely to enjoy it, even if it is temporarily as a Starbucks barista.

With that said, there are without a doubt contextual factors making it difficult to be in the fortunate minority, many of which are more pronounced for younger generations than they were for older ones.

It's both the system and individual, but you can only control one of those things...

Any avenue of healthcare is just a giant mistake these days. Do more with less is the constant refrain from management.

If I could have a redo, I would run as far from healthcare as humanly possible. I tell students that and they don't believe me. They will one day but it'll be too late.

Are you new to the workforce or something? Just because you toe the company line and drink the Kool aid, doesn't mean your work is better.

I've been out of it 8 years and I still have a bad reaction every time I hear sirens. I respect what they do but I'm almost mad at them at the same time, it's weird. EMS is just an overall awful situation, no sleep, shite pay, shitty environment, every thing. Big mistake on my part. Ruining your mind and body for that is just stupid.

We have a woman born in like 1970 that does that. She online shops and reads celebrity gossip for 6 hours a day. She also averages an hour and a half on her lunch break. I can also count on one hand how many times she's been on time in 2.5 years. I don't think it's possible that she's not fricking the owner with the shite she gets away with
