I asked this question in a thread yesterday but I thought I’d pose it to the whole board. I’d never really considered this question before yesterday, but it’s an interesting one I believe.

Let’s say tomorrow we have verified first contact with an alien life form. Their ship(s) come to here like we see in the movies. But when we first see these aliens face to face, it turns out they look exactly like us, human. And not only do they look like us, their biology down to their DNA is exactly the same as ours. What then? How would our collective global society react to such an event?

How hot are their women-folk? Will DarthRebel post pics of them like he does our Earth human women?

I think first contact was made many years ago.

We have technology now, gifted to us, that is now being abused.

Maybe they now feel obligated to step in. Like when you give your son his first pocket knife, and a week later you see him using it irresponsibly.

You mean like when the Amerindians first met the Europeans

The aliens watched that bad Chris Pratt movie and were like "yeah I guess we could just show up at the Super Bowl"

Realistically if we make contact we could likely be fricked. Imagine the Europeans finding North America only this time the Europeans have fricking stealth bombers, nukes, and insanely high tech

Or here is another scenario. We never get that advanced because our propensity for violence is our own undoing and the alien societies only attained interstellar travel because they were peaceful enough not to do themselves in like we might.

One of the least interesting scenarios for alien contact IMO

Doesn’t confirm or deny the presence of life on other planets that developed separately from humans

I’m not going to work anymore. That’s for sure.
That would mean everything has been a lie. People will start to question everything. It will probably lead to anarchy. Think of all the people religion is holding in place morally. If aliens pop up, do you still believe in the Lord? What if they say they put us here?
I’m not a religious fella, but I think that would be some biblical end of times type stuff.

Dumbest thing I have seen in a while. I'm pretty sure I'd give earth a habitat rating of 100% percent since...you know...we currently habitate it

Yeah there’s another theory floating around that our planet has been zoned off by more advanced civilizations kind of like that island in Indonesia where an untouched civilization lives
