At this point your life, you've been working for almost 30 years assuming you held a job constantly since your teenage years. Where do find the motivation to keep giving it your all at your job?

Every year that passes, I find myself less and less motivated to get up and go to work everyday. I know my motivation should be to take care of and provide for my family, but leaning on that just isn't working for me anymore

The older I get, I find myself just wanting to do the bare minimum to keep my job and focus more on doing the things I enjoy doing in life. I told my wife that one day I'm going to wake up and just quit.

I don't know how to regain that spark and desire to grow and succeed in my career. Just wanted to pose the question to see how others are able to keep trucking along?

Don't. Phone it in just enough to keep your job and focus on the things that make you happy. Work most likely never fulfill you.

Some of that depends on what your job is. I'm almost at 40 years in the workforce, hoping to retire in the next couple, but if your work is interesting, that goes a long way.

Plus your work environment makes a huge difference. I don't have anyone standing over my shoulder, but I do have tasks that have to be done regularly, so that keeps me honest.

i'm self-employed. if i don't kill i don't eat. not like i'm on all cylinders all the time, but there's a special curse and angst that goes with self-employment

It helps if you have a job that doesn't completely suck. I did 22 years in the military right out of high school and retired when my kids were young. Deployments and months in the field was not conducive to raising a family, although the job rocked. I've got 21 in my current job and I feel your pain. I'm just waiting for the economy to stabilize and I'm retiring. It comes with another pension so I'll be good, but want to make sure we don't fall into a full blown massive recession before I do. Money isn't everything if the job literally makes you miserable. Unfortunately, now isn't the time to give up a paycheck.

The older I get the less important this is to me, personally.

“If you love what you do, you won’t work a day in your life.”

Maybe that’s true for a tiny percentage of people but not for me.

I was raised by folks who instilled in me that “failure is not an option” mentality.

I just still go out and do shite. Sorry but that probably doesn’t help you, but just “fake it till you make it” maybe?

I’ve got enough to retire but I would still have to get up every morning and go do something, I might as well do what I’m presently doing now.

I have generally enjoyed my career and probably picked the right field for me but after a long enough time I think just about anything gets old.

It helps when you like your job and you’re incentivized to work hard. Also helps to have someone at home stoking the fires so that you can achieve at work.

It’s a personal sense of pride and the work ethic instilled in me by my parents.

Separate issue IMO. You’re just tired of the same
Old shite. Most who’ve worked for a living feel
This way. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it your best at work. And everything else for that matter.
