With three young kids at home and only one in school full time, she does plenty on top of cooking and cleaning.
Money is not plentiful, but when you add up the cost of childcare for all of them and what she would likely make (less than $40k) and the higher tax rate of our combined income, it doesn't make sense for her to work right now. I think when all the kiddos are in school, she is willing to go back to work.
It also makes it easier on me because she is always flexible with her schedule.
Edited for grammar.

Anyone else had to deal with this?
Plenty of women have. A lot will depend on what she did before and if she maintained her network and skills over the years. Some go to work for friends or former coworkers. Some go back to school to brush up or learn a new skill set. If you have a MomCorp around you, they are an employment company that specializes in getting women back in the workforce. They were pretty prolific in my area a few years ago but not sure about the rest of the country.

I work from home a lot. I've seen what mine does. I'm happy to lock the office door and work.

Yours is probably choosing from a wide selection of Jodie’s.

I am a stay at home mom and my kids keep me very busy but a lot of my work is "invisible". Most is not apparent at first glance but glaringly obvious when they are NOT done. If the house looks the same in the evening as it did in the morning, that means I cleaned and picked up dozens of times a day.
That sounds like an excuse for a mess

raise 3 young children
clean the house
cook
do laundry
get them to school, dr appt, and other obligations
go to the gym
play tennis
Its really a lot of work, and at times makes my job look easy.
I don't understand how you don't know what she does though because my makes sure I know all about does.

I raised 3 kids
Took care of laundry, cooking, cleaning
Keeping up with household and school paperwork
Kids appointments, meetings, activities, etc and believe me that kept me running.
I pretty much did everything except for "outside stuff" other than maintaining the flower beds. Mowed from time to time when he didn't have time. He's a farmer and his time at home just depended on the season.
I've been working part time since the youngest started school in 2005. It's a good balance for me and us in general. The extra money doesn't hurt either.
That said, I do have lunch with friends, get my nails done from time to time and shop on occasion. I have a few hobbies that I like to do as time allows.
I've been away from home several times through the years and when I got home my husband and I always agree that neither of us wants the job of the other.

Question for men who's S/O stay at home.
Do you ever ask your wife what she does all day?
A few years back, when asked to take out the garbage, my son instead made the mistake of asking her what she does all day?. Her answer was . . . . you are about to find out.
For the next three days he did everything she did -- cooking, cleaning, laundry, and watched as she carried out online trades. At the end of those three days, he never needed to pose the question again.

Who is excusing a mess? You do realize a house can start off clean and end clean just as well as messy, right?

Mine was out for 15, but in that time, she also went back to school. Had no problem finding a job and was able to take what hours she wanted to work. She retired at 55 and does everything around the house now.

Mine orders stuff from amazon, etsy, etc all day. I don’t know how we ever lived without all this stuff we “need”.

As long as It’s clean. But I’ve seen stay at home mom’s start the day with a messy house then at the end of the day the house is still messy, but they say “but i’ve Been cleaning all day!”
That’s a lie though. I know what they did

We have 4 kids and my wife homeschools so I know I have it way better working all day. I’ve had to take over a few times and it erases any doubt I have that’s she isn’t pulling her weight.

She does Marcus Rodan and Cleo Fields, doesn't make much money but seems fullfilled.

Four pages and nobody said anything. The OT is slipping!

Our 2 and 4 year old girls are a handful. I think her job is tougher than mine at times.
