I feel like half the time I talk about my experience with drinking in here I get mocked later about it, but alcohol withdrawals are horrific.

If you start hallucinating visibly and/or audibly, you're going to have to seek detox or there is no way you won't go buy more liquor.

I don't know how bad off you are so I can't really say. If you can finally stop and get off that fricking hamster wheel, you'll be very glad you did.

It’s a plant.

If you want to say everything that we consume that causes a neurological reaction to our brain a drug, then everything is a drug.

I mean I was throwing up blood damn near nightly towards the end of my bad drinking habit. While I also smoked during that time, weed absolutely helped deal with the mental/physical issues that followed going cold turkey on alcohol.

Weed dont satisfy a drunk. I only feel a bit dizzy and focused. Helps with my photography and sleep.

Booze helps with karaoke..

I used to drink a lot of beer. If I only drank a six pack in a day, I sorta considered that not drinking. 3-4 days a week, I’d put down 10-15 beers pretty easy.

I quit cold turkey one day about a year ago and never went back. It was killing my body and mind.

Nausea will definitely be an issue.

I became an alcoholic because of my cocaine addiction. Needed to drink to take the edge off. I was a complete trainwreck until I got sober back in 2016.

Man. I have 1-2 drinks a night and this thread makes me realize I am a lightweight.

Always wondered what people consider drinking hard. a fifth a week?

I was up to 2 or 3 per week when my wife got pregnant with our most recent child. At that point I cut back to beer only and that probably reduced my overall alcohol consumption by 80% or so. I really can only stomach so much beer at once.

I didn't get DTs or anything. I just didn't really get very drunk. Probably a healthy thing to do, and it wasn't really all that hard.

Supa, you sound like you dealt with what I experienced when I quit cold turkey. It wasn't pretty.

It would take awhile to type out what I went through, and luckily,my wife stuck with me.

I just spit my whiskey out

Ive always been known to have a strong tolerance to alcohol but there have been nights a few years ago where me and a buddy polish off a handle of whiskey while sipping beer on the side. Im not gonna say im proud of it, but god damnit Im proud of it...

this is genuinely a really good way to look at it. One of the better quotes ive heard. I still drink, but I gave up cigarettes years ago. It was what opened my eyes to how serious withdrawals are. Its what I imagine someone with severe mental illness goes through on a daily basis.

For a few days. If you can makese it 4-5 days it gets much better. It's one of the hardest things you'll ever do, your body fights you tooth and nail.

That’s every drug ever.

I’ve never had shakes or nausea. But I do have night sweats and ringing in the ears when I quit for a few days.

Ole fat boy pretending he knows shite. Nothing new under the sun. Good to see you Forrest. You haven't followed me around like a puppy in a while.

Weed is nothing like alcohol. If you want a crossover, it's opiates. Alcohol and opiates work similarly.

Lucky you. I was a giant pile of shite during that time to my gf. She rightfully left my arse. Was pretty big driving force to stop drinking as much.

Oh Roger, you’re once again showing how ignorant you are.

If you want a crossover it’s Benzo’s.

But you keep pretending to be an expert on everything
