Did you battle constant nausea?
Amongst the other things like shakes and delirium.

The dreams when I quit are the worst part.

For a few days. If you can makese it 4-5 days it gets much better. It's one of the hardest things you'll ever do, your body fights you tooth and nail.

I’m not a hard drinker, and I’m also not quitting.
Guess I’m no help.

Always wondered what people consider drinking hard. a fifth a week?

if it is that bad, consider a detox facility. you cam die from alcohol withdrawal

From personal experience, don't quit cold turkey. Slowly cut back on it until you can manage it.

You can do this and never actually feel a buzz. I'd think a fifth a day +.

I guess my body was just ready to quit, because I didn't have any of those kind of issues.
For several months before I quit, alcohol was interfering with my sleep. I could fall asleep easily, but I'd wake up after a couple of hours and not be able to sleep again.
When I finally gave it up (and I did drink a lot--I even lived in the French Quarter back then), I started sleeping all night and I felt great.

For addicted people it's the only way. Just buck up and d it. If it's life threatening check into a facility.
Still drinking for physical addiction dies nothing to help you sober up, it just fights off the pain.
The pain is a fantastic part of recovery, it's something you'll remember.

Oddly enough, I stayed in ICU for 7 days and have no recollection of leaving my house, nor the first 4 days in ICU. Even after being put in a private room, I couldn't remember my wife(no pics) or daughter's names.

Smoke some weed.
I was buying a bottle of beam every day. Woke up drinking, went to class drinking, went to work at the bar drinking. Left the bar and late night til 5am drinking. Wake up and repeat.
Weed 100% helped

My 70 yo mother in law was a hard drinker for the last 10 years but she went to rehab for a week. When she said she was leaving after 7 days and she was not going to drink anymore we didn't believe her for a minute. She hasn't had a drop since and she's about 8 months sober. We are very proud of her and she is proud of herself again.

Basically my dad also. He ended up throwing up blood and went to the hospital. Doesn’t remember the first few days. Hasn’t drank since.

I was a very hard drinker and sought help 9 years ago. Shakes and related issues will occur. For me, the anxiety for about a 2 months was unbearable. If you are truly a hard drinker (only you can define "hard") I would consider rehab or at the very least medically assisted detox.
If you are an alcoholic you will very likely drink again without some support whether that be inpatient/outpatient treatment, personal addiction specialist or AA. Just my experience though.
