What is the best food to feed a dog? We’ve spoken to our vet, a friends vet, and a friend who is a vet tech and they say Purina Pro plan.

Every other person in the industry(groomers, cashiers when we buy the food at pet stores) has the opinion that we are evil people poisoning our dog by giving her Purina. One recently went as far to say vets recommend it because they make money on sick dogs.

Any vets want to clarify?

I think you are worrying a bit too much.

Science Diet is a good one. But if you’re looking for “the best” then go with those ridiculously expensive fresh dog food delivery services like The Farmers Dog

If you can get it at the grocery store it's probably trash, but many dogs have lived long lives eating it.

Little pricey but both my dogs had big time issues . Blood in stool wouldn’t eat much, gave them Royal Canin not one issue since. Knock on wood!

Bet that’s expensive as all crap. Got to really love your pets!

I live with a vet and that is what we use. Science Diet is fine as well. You don't want to fall for the "grain free" fad. There is building evidence that a grain free diet leads to heart issues.

Purina pro plan is what we feed our’s and my wife is a vet. Our dog has allergies and the sensitive skin salmon formula has been a godsend.

I can attest to this. My dog has an enlarged heart and had been on grain free food for several years. I didn't even know the dog food was grain free. I was feeding her the Kirkland brand of dog food from Costco because I had always had good experiences with Kirkland products in the past.

I was gonna say something similar that the "best" food for your dog would be fresh food/protein instead of the dry dog food. I've seen the farmer's dog stuff, but when I did the math the cost is like 4x the price of dry food per month.

My dog has been eating dry food forever so I don't see any reason to make that switch. Maybe could do a fresh meal every now and then, but i don't think it matters to the dog

A few breeders I know use Pro Plan Focus, kinda hard to find right now though. Also it depends on the type of dog and level of activity. If it's a house dog that sleeps all day and goes for a couple of walks, don't buy something with extremely high protein. He doesn't need it and it's not good for him.

Victor over anything else for me.

Through research and then my own use on high performance working dogs through the years, I haven't found anything else that holds up to it.

Been happy with Victor Pro Plus delivered by Chewy.

But probably over thinking a bit.

I use Victor or Diamond Naturals. My dogs the salmon flavor. I think diamond calls it Skin and Coat. There's other good ones but these 2 are priced pretty good for what they are.

my oldest dog is 14 and has been eating Iam's all his life. My vet told me to make sure the first ingredient is real meat.

Dude, it’s highly disrespectful to call our men who served animals.

Animal Mother is ok though

My dog has some weird stomach issues so we have to switch her food every year or so. Food will be great for her for 9-12 months, then all of a sudden she’ll have constant diarrhea, gas, and sits outside grazing on grass. We’ve tried all the popular brands, including many formulated for sensitive stomachs. Right now, she’s eating Blue Diamond salmon and brown rice.

I will say Putin’s Pro Plan was her favorite. The only good she got excited to eat.
