Quit being dramatic, and let your kid go to school wherever they want. Bad things didn’t just start happening around LSU.

I keep forgetting about the lazy river. UREC was really nice when I was there, but they took it to another level entirely.
The Union and the on-campus dining halls are way nicer now too. And every one of those new apartments they built on campus are extremely nice - especially the ones by that Matherne's. They still had some dorms without air conditioning when I was there.
LSU really upped their game when it comes to student life. Annoyingly they did this in the decade since I've been gone.

For the folks here who go to school here or parents who send their kids here, what is your opinion of the quality of life at LSU? I graduated in '94 and my kid is considering it next year. There have always been incidents but lately it seems like there's something daily from kidnappings, to off campus shootings, to fights in the dorms. I did some crazy shite, but this just seems to be on another level. Are other college campuses experiencing this stuff?

quote:My daughter is a Sophomore at LSU. I feel she is safe during the day walking to class and I feel better about her living in the sorority house. But that is about it. I am nervous anytime she walks to her car at night in the greek lot, honestly anytime she is out in the dark I am nervous for her. I have made sure to always tell her to move in packs. Safety in numbers. I tell her don't just sit in your car. Get in, turn it on and leave your spot, same for when she is coming back from somewhere and parking. She just always have to a high level of SA.

I don't think we were notified of every incident on campus in the pre cell phone days either. I don't really remember that many high profile crimes happening but I'm sure kids still got robbed on Aster in the 90s.

Oh come on. You know you heard the stories about rape alley.
no, but I did go and watch Free Speech Alley. Watching the student evangelists calling everyone drunks and sinners was entertaining.

The dining halls are what kind of surprises me. They were complete shite when I was on campus.
They are fricking awesome right now.

1990s was record high crime for Baton Rouge and Louisiana.
I would imagine, La and BR are starting to test those records.

When I was at LSU they advised folks to walk in groups at night, to avoid poorly lit areas and some of the "shortcuts" that were isolated between buildings and such. Especially female students. There were several rapes that had occurred as well as some armed robberies but LSU would try to keep the lid on that info going public. That was in 1980.
And this is the same advice for every single college campus in existence. It's also the same advice for going anywhere in a city, in a dimly lit place at night...it's just good advice.

2020 & 2021 blew away the 90s murder rates in BR.

Dear Facebook. The helicopter parents are hysterical losers.
My son is on campus as a freshman right now and he loves it.
