I'd say 75-77 in most areas of the country. There are small towns where I wouldn't feel comfortable even going the posted speed limit.

78. My first ever ticket was a 79 in a 70.

Washington is 75 and I got one for going 81.

It’s not so much 9 over is okay

It’s as long as you’re in the same first digit you’re good

So 79 in a 70 is usually good

But it’s 79 in a 75 and you’re good

If they see that 8 out front it catches their attention and they get you no matter if it’s in a 70 or a 75.

ETA: Also don’t speed through Washington ya dingus

We typically have a thread on Tiger Rant every game week about the opposing team's QB doing something only a douche would do, like driving under the speed limit in the left lane with his right blinker on.

I regulate my speed by location because some parishes and counties apparently have all else under control with zero cold cases since they send their officers to nab interstate speeders all day every day. Zero crime in their jurisdictions so they are soooo concerned about public safety they resort to speed enforcement.

Like I-20 will always have Bienville or Arcadia sheriffs in the median. Rain, sun, snow, doesn't matter. Zero crime parishes apparently since they spend all their time on the interstate. So drive 2 under the limit as soon as you see the parish line sign that section of the road.

Darn nice of them to seek us all out for own good like that.

I just sit under 80 if I'm not actively watching. Set it to like 78-79.

In Miami though, you'll only be pulled over by a trooper so you can get away with 90.

Set cruise for 85 unless there are known speed traps in the area, then 77-78. You can usually hit the brakes before they clock you and get it under 75 which in most cases you won’t get stopped. I’ve even outran a couple or got off an exit to hide a few times going 80+ after a siren turned on.

I’ve never seen one cop on the interstate in a big city and everyone is doing 25 over. Atlanta, Dallas, anywhere.

Speed limit, I’m not participating in a state tax scheme.

It’s rather variable due to the quality of roads, lanes, truck traffic, and number of people on the road.

There’s a stretch of highway on i5 between LOs Angeles and the Central Valley. Four lanes, intermittent truck traffic, and absolutely rural. It’s around 30+ miles of stretch and you can see cops from a mile away. I was comfortable doing 90-100 when traffic was light. I’ve seen caravans of sports cars doing over 100 multiple times.

90-92 in Montana, if it's a nice day. Speed limit on I-90 is 85 pretty much everywhere that doesn't go through a city. Can see cops from a mile(or more) away in most places as well.

Yeah, they have better things to do no doubt. And somehow, troopers are still dicks everywhere

Of course he has. It’s literally in the text you quoted.

Anyone that posted anything over the speed limit is going to hell. Thing I'm joking? You think the little sins don't matter? Adam and Eve ate some forbidden fruit fruit and fricked us all over. fricking fruit!

Found this in an article from 2019 and thought it was interesting.

Advocate - A growing number of towns rely on speeding ticket fines; Here's how officials are trying to change that

I assume this data is from 2017 or 2018

Locale - Percentage of town revenues made up by fines (I added the roadway I assume most of the tickets come from)

1. Fenton - 94.9 percent (HWY 165)
2. Georgetown - 92.2 percent (HWY 165)
3. Baskin - 89.3 percent (HWY 425)
4. Henderson - 84.6 percent (I-10)
5. Robeline - 84.4 percent (HWY 6)
6. Reeves - 84.4 percent (HWY 190)
7. Pioneer - 84.4 percent (HWY 17)
8. Tullos - 80.3 percent (HWYS 165/84)
9. Forest Hill - 75.5 percent (HWY 165)
10. Creola - 72.4 percent (HWY 167)
11. McNary - 71.1 percent (HWY 165)
12. Clayton - 69.5 percent (HWYS 425/65)
13. Pollock - 67.49 percent (HWYS 165/8)
14. Merryville - 67.47 percent (HWY 190)
15. Gilbert - 65.4 percent (HWY 425)
16. Port Vincent - 65.0 percent (HWY 16?)
17. Mangham - 63.27 percent (HWY 425)
18. Fisher - 62.23 percent (HWY 171)
19. Dodson - 62.1 percent (HWY 167)
20. Bonita - 59.3 percent (HWY 165)
21. Pine Prairie - 56.1 percent (HWY 13)
22. Tickfaw - 52.4 percent (HWY 51/I-55?)
23. Woodworth - 51.5 percent (HWY 165 / I-49?)
24. Pearl River - 50.6 percent (I-59)
25. Florien - 49.7 percent (HWY 171)

In summary, HWY 165 is evidently a cash machine

Surprised Washington wasn't on there but didn't they get banned from patrolling I-49 or something? I might be misremembering that.

Usually 5 over posted speed limit except in areas where the limit is 80.

Whatever it takes to either go with the flow or get around people going less than 70.

If the road is completely empty, I'll set it at 75 - enough that I won't bother braking if I see the Police.
