A Purple Heart earned during World War II will soon be returned to the recipient's family in Missouri after it was sold for $4.99 at an Arizona Goodwill store. Laura Hardy says she was shopping at a Mesa, Arizona, Goodwill over the weekend when her husband spotted the Purple Heart on display in the store’s jewelry section.

I believe it is illegal to sell those. I know there is a federal statute that they can’t sell replicas but I thought you couldn’t sell real ones either. Might be wrong on that part though.

It’s only illegal to sell the Medal of Honor now. Stolen Valor Act was done away by Barrack H Obama.

No it wasn’t, it was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. It’s an abridgment of free speech.
It was a stupid arse law that came from the Senate during the W. Bush era. Laws for fraud already exist if you benefit from stolen valor and those crimes should fall under that. If some douche knuckle wants to pretend to be Rambo with all kind of medals but is not benefiting in anyway, he should just be mocked, not charged with a crime.

I've got a medal of honor from my great aunts first husband. Tried to get it to his family but there is none left They married right before he left so she hardly knew him.

Stars and Stripes
Here is another one from a few years ago about a guy who bought a bomber jacket at a Goodwill, and returned it to the 90 year-old World War II vet it originally belonged to.

I'll give you 3.50 for it, cash.

If it is from World War II, and you have no personal attachment to it, why not donate it to the National World War II Museum in New Orleans? It has been a few years since I've been to the museum, but I don't recall them having a Medal of Honor on display. They would certainly display something like that.

Someone donated a medal to Goodwill.
They sold it. Which is what they do with donated items.
You have to be the biggest saddest snowflake in the world to get triggered by that.

They aren't short on purple hearts or other type of donations. They don't want everything and most items are in storage for years before finally making it on display.

Storage
This is 100% accurate. Good friends dad, who was a USMC platoon leader on Guadalcanal, went down there to donate some very unique items. One being the coolest piece of war memorabilia I have ever seen, his original battle map of the island with notes on each days engagements-casualties-etc. The folks at the museum were very polite but blunt in saying they are overwhelmed with donations and most items will never be displayed. He kept the items instead of relegating them to some shelf in a warehouse.

I’d roll into a VFW wearing that thing with a stopwatch. See how long it took my arse to get kicked. Or at least have an old fella take a poke at me. Lol
Seriously though, I’d go to a VFW with it and ask. What do I do with it? Is it a nice enough place that they’d display it? I imagine a ton of vets have never seen one?
Maybe they let you get a free beer or two for life for your donation? Since Your Uncle didn’t get his. Lol.
Something before it sat in a box in a drawer.

They have a MOH on display at the museum. It belonged to some baw from Louisiana. He was a fighter pilot that shot down a bunch of japs and then got stranded on an island with some natives. He survived and returned home. They even have a huge spear that the native cheif traded the pilot for his belt buckle. It's pretty cool. The spear is about 10 feet tall.

What is the reasoning for this picture of Yolanda holding up an ugly purse?

I figured a Medal of Honor would be something worth displaying, but like you said, they probably get bombarded by donations.

There are people out there who collect medals. Since WWII a lot of medals have been sold off, sent to Goodwill, or even thrown in the trash. There have been plenty of purple hearts found discarded like rubbish. At least collectors continue to honor the memory of the men and women who earned those medals.
There is talk of legislation to prevent the buying and selling of Purple Heart medals in the U.S. The only thing this will do is push all those medals to foreign collectors. Where do you think all the Medals of Honor are now? They're all overseas because it's illegal to possess them in this country.
