Charge and warranty accordingly, why are you mad?

Why is the OEM not reimbursing the shop for this, and if they aren’t, why wouldn’t the shop refuse to do warranty work? OP’s obviously not at a dealership.
Are you suggesting parts manufacturers reimburse shops for the labor to replace defective parts? If so I am curious what sector that is in, it may occur I just am unaware of it.

If they can get the part cheaper than what you quoted and you’re still gonna charge labor, why do you give a shite? Tell them if it doesn’t fit I’m still charging you shop time and leave it at that. Odd hill to die on.
That may sound logical but if a shop stays booked then using bay time for just labor is losing money. A shop will have a quota to hit for every bay they have, the business plan will have the profit from parts baked into the amount that have to hit to make their day. If everyone brings in parts they lose that profit source. So it would be reasonable (and good business) for a fully booked shop to charge more per hour to install customer provided parts. If they have techs sitting on their arse part of the day it is a different story but not many good shops have much of that.

This was more of a rant on people buying stuff and acting like children when I tell them no... But after reading a bunch of these comments, it's painfully obvious a LOT of people don't realize how much it costs to run a business.

My mechanic will tell me what to go buy from O'rielly.

My husband sells parts. He’s purchased directly from the company before using his discount and had it delivered to the mechanics shop. No one’s ever had an issue. It’s usually something like the whole engine or a transmission

What's board's opinion on buying stuff and expecting a business to install them for you?
It's very common at reputable shops about Baton Rouge metro.
My goto shop on Siegen Lane did it three times in the last year, saving me almost $1000 total.

If you're 'making rent money' on marking up parts, you're not in it for the longrun.
You can be a very successful auto shop in the longrun based on your reputation, repeat business, fair prices, etc.

It's your business (I assume), so make your policies how you wish.
Do what works for you.

many years ago I worked for a chain tire / auto repair company. If we bought a part from an auto parts store, our default markup 250%. Granted the parts store gave us a discount, but we marked it up 2.5x of our cost.

It happens.
I wanted a new faucet for my kitchen sink and a new spigot for my bathtub, and the plumber made me order the ones I wanted and only came back to install them once they arrived.
I ordered a Mosquito anti-loitering device (British product) and had a local electrician install it.

AutoZone's business plan is that they will install things like car batteries for you. I usually will slip the guy who does it a 20.

Some places charge a huge markup on parts. If I can get them cheaper than the repair shop why not try to save a little.
Most of the mechanics I've used will offer to let me go to O'Reilly's and get the part myself. Or I can pay them to deal with it for me.
I prefer the latter. Less work for me.

Customer provides the cheapest china rebuilt alternator. Unknown to the mechanic its POS & doesn’t work. Mechanic doesn’t know that until after it’s installed. He says you owe me $300 for labor but the alternator you provided still isn’t charging your battery. Will that be cash or card
Customer is pissed and rips the shop on every online review he can find. Aint nobody got time for that.
