Just have to buck up and do it.

I work from home, have 3 kids in various after school events, coach softball, and have 20 acres to maintain.

Most days of the week I work a 10 hour day, change clothes while in a meeting, swap the meeting to my phone, get in the truck and drive an hour (while in meetings) to practice, jump out and start coaching 8 year olds for 2 hours.

Sure it eats at your soul, just find your ways to cope. Have a laugh with the wife, beer in the pool, go for a walk.

What makes it overwhelming? Just that you have to be there? Or the work? Sounds like you are just being used as a laborer & chaperone, I feel like I’d be elated the year was ending

You ever dealt with 150 teenagers a day? You need a break or you wouldn’t have any teachers. You know nothing about the profession. You are teacher, nurse, psychologist, psychiatrist, referee, DHS and everything else rolled into one these days. Kids come to school with lots of problems. Tell me another profession they are leaving in droves? Students, parents, admins, society, and media all blame the teacher who has limited power to do anything. They are where rubber meets the road. They follow orders from above.

A major problem is we are placing less responsibility on the kids. Example:

Incoming freshman need to fill out choice sheets for core classes and electives. At the end of their 8th grade year, we host a big event showcasing the options at our school. This is an evening event that happens in March. Then we essentially do the same thing prior to the start of next year, even though the kids already have their schedules. This second event happens at the end of summer. In December, we go to the middle schools and preach the same thing.

It’s not exactly a model of efficiency, doesn’t really accomplish much to do the same thing 3 times.

My certification is in music. There’s 1 band teacher at each MS campus.

Ah yeah. Band director is a tougher gig.

Ever think about taking the praxis in a different subject area? Many states make it easy to switch.

Which experience similar issues. Dealing with the dregs of a degrading with little support from a sizable portion of the voting public, many of whom literally believe cops are actively trying to destroy lives with their methods.

Ahhh, luxury.

I’d kill for that easy of a daily schedule.

Every day I have to wake up two hours before I go to bed and work three jobs 7 days a eeek each, 12 hours with no breaks, one at a wastewater treatment plant, one at a crematorium, and the other at a slaughterhouse.

I coach four travel teams: baseball, football, basketball, and frisbee golf.

I’m a lay minister for a Church that only ministers to Hansen’s Disease sufferers.

I have twelve kids and twins on the way.

I’m adding a full court basketball gym in my basement, doing it all myself.

I’m in Law School full time at night.

And you should see my brother’s schedule.

In all seriousness, a sector of our country has a weird obsession with bragging about how hard or long they work.

I started a thread about looking for a job at a middle school instead of high school, as that would alleviate much of the time spent. I would gladly take a pay cut to have more time with my wife

Stay in education if this scenario is hellish to you.

Don’t get into the private sector.

Good luck.

I work less hours and have less stress in the private sector than I did in education. And make more money.

For OP, it’s just time to re-evaluate your priorities. They’d have your job posted before your obituary, so you have to stop martyring yourself for the job. I’d move down to middle or look for something else outside of the profession at this point. Otherwise you’re going to absolutely burn out.

I don’t know how you Teachers truly manage with only the 5-week summers, two week Christmas breaks, and the one week Spring Break.

This is such a tired response. Teachers aren't paid during Summer. That's not time off, it's unemployment.

An absolute shite ton of them. You can’t find technicians, electricians, welders, construction hands, waiters, kitchen staffs, and a shite load others

Ignore the negative comments. It takes a MAN to acknowledge and express his feelings. It’s unfortunate that we don’t normalize supporting men’s mental health.
Most people who call themselves men, have egos to masks their insecurities, when deep down they suffer just like any other human. They’ve been taught, and filled like a jelly donut, manipulated, that you bury it deep down and you push through. That’s not living happy.
From one man to another, I’m proud that you’ve come forward, even if it’s just to vent. Know that there are others who feel the same way, and talking about it helps.
I have a very stressful job, I own a business on the side, I have a wife, and now a new born. shite hits the fan in my head from time to time. I agree with taking a moment for yourself, even if it’s just to breathe.
If it gets worst make sure to be proactive.

Goodluck to you.
