A little background.
Mother had colon cancer and died because of it. She was diagnosed with it around age 66-67 & lived a few years after the diagnosis . Not too overweight but was diabetic and was inactive.
Middle 50s white male, 5'10", 220lbs. Some what active at work doing moderate lifting and walking. Non smoker and do not drink alcohol.
Diet the last few years have been fairly weak.A little background.

Diet the last few years have been somewhat weak.
I usually have a colonoscopy done every 5 years but went about 7 years from the last time.
Doc performed the colonoscopy and found 8 polyps. All eight were 'sessile' of benign appearance. Size was 3mm and non-bleeding.
Doc removed all 8 polyps and sent them to the lab for analysis.
Results came back,3 polyps were 'hyperplastic' or benign. Non cancerous.
5 polyps were 'adenomatous' or precancerous. So Doc wants me to return in 3 years for another colonoscopy.
A good friend of mine about the same age as me, but was very healthy and not over-weight was diagnosed with colon cancer and recently passed away.
IF I had waited longer to get a colonoscopy, they very well could have turned cancerous.
There are several folks on TD that are dealing with colon cancer right this moment. Many are living good healthy life's.
I posted all this for one reason. If you are over 45 years of age, get that colonoscopy done ASAP. It could be a lifesaver.

It's inconvenient. But, well worth it.
This is a good post. For those who are avoiding it...don't.

Yep. They suck. But it can save your life. Easy to let slide by. Don’t. Saved someone in my family’s life as well. Stay on top of the butt probes

Over and never had it done. I know I should. Thank you so much for the reminder.

This would be me, but they changed the damn age on me, and I was 4.5 years away to overdue all the sudden

Do it man, it not such a terrible procedure like ppl think. They knock you out and you wake up 20 minutes later and its over. The worst part is the prep / cleaning yourself out.

A colonoscopy is a big nothingburger. It's a painless procedure that no one should be afraid of.

Drinking that damn clean out drink is the absolute worst but the propofol nap is the best. Just dont think about whats happening while you have the best nap of your life.

How can one control what they are thinking about when they are knocked out under anesthesia?

The one thing I have not had a problem with other than the usual non serious stuff is my colon.
The prep for a colonoscopy and the procedure itself has hospitalized me for a few days. Not a thing to see in there though. Alas, I have a boring colon.
Good luck to those who have problems though. Just the non serious stuff is miserable, I can’t imagine what you go through.

I'm 46 and my first colonoscopy is Oct 11. My Aunt died from it but nothing in my parents. It's one of the most preventable cancers and easiest to catch early (along with testicular and skin)...just gotta get the procedure.

I did my first one this year.
It was scheduled for noon which I thought worked out well because I woke up at a normal time(6am) to do the second prep.

I’ll probably get one the second I turn 45. I wouldn’t be surprised if they move the recommended age up to 40 at some point given how many younger people are getting colon cancer.

You never cease to amaze me at your ability to be an idiot. Its uncanny.

If hesitant, at least begin with the Colo-Guard. Picked up my blood and had 3 polyps removed - on 3 year follow up, now

Um, that's a really weird way to talk about your colon

But I'm reading colonoscopies cause cancer.
