Nothing wrong with it per se, but I can change a spare in 10 minutes or I can wait two hours for someone to arrive on the side of the highway to change it for me.

I also do my own oil changes so I know exactly what was done as opposed to some hourly employee working on commission for up-sales with an incentive to "find a problem" they create.

I figure the pro has a floor jack and power tools. That costs more than a AAA membership. And if I have engine trouble I need a tow truck. Might as well pay the smaller amount and let someone else handle it.

I have a compressor that has the “slime” bottle attached. Truck size. You can use air or air and slime together.

Got me off of the interstate a while back in a few minutes.

When was the last time you called AAA?

I've used them twice in the last two years. Once was for a blowout this summer on I-12 when I was coming from a work meeting in suit pants and a long sleeve shirt. They were at my vehicle in less than 20 minutes, I was on my way in 30 and I never got out of the AC.

My mom passed and I ended up with her 2001 Camry. It had 60k miles on it and had lived in a carport for most of its life, so it was in near perfect shape.

In 2019, I was driving from Atlanta to Auburn early one morning when I had a blowout. I opened the trunk to get the spare and realized no one had ever used the jack before. I smiled. Then I realized that that probably meant no one had checked the (full size) spare since the car was purchased, and I was right. The spare had never before touched asphalt, and was flat.

I was also in a dead zone for my cell, but a 511 truck happened to come by and he quickly filled the tire with air and changed it for me.

I just had to get a set of run flats because my weekend car can't fit a spare tire in the trunk.

Interesting. I have actually only been with someone when roadside was called twice and it was a long wait for the roadside. Been awhile.

The younger, work from home, guys don’t know how to change a tire and call some app to come take care of them.

Easy to learn. Their older, away from home fathers must not have been man enough to teach them

2 of ours have full size spares, one has a pressure sensor and I am a psycho that checks the other one when I change the oil.

2 just have fix a flat. We do take the M5 on trips sometimes so I have a donut kit I bought that I throw in the trunk when we are taking it out of town. It is one thing to wait on service in and around town, and another to be 40 miles outside of any decent-sized town late on a weekend night.

I have 12v compressors in all the cars.

The spare tire in my 88 5.0 mustang is still good, the one in my 2017 Chevy… no idea of it’s condition but looked good when I bought the car.

Yep. Last time I changed a flat my spare was flat. Thankfully I was in town and not traveling.

but tire stuff is somethin i like to handle myself if i can so i dont gotta wait like someone mentioned so i keep a can of slime and a fatmax in the truck

Depends on how it takes for the assistance to arrive....

I have waited hours for AAA

Yep. Same thing with roadside assistance through your insurance company. It may take hours, and you could have just changed it yourself. However, it’s much faster if you call and set it up with a company yourself, pay, and then seek reimbursement from your insurance company. I’m sure that AAA is the same way.

“ I really like that mine has a sensor in it that tells me when it gets low just like the regular tires.”

Couldn’t figure out why tire pressure sensor wouldn’t go off when all the tire were checked and filled. It was the sensor in the spare. Filled it up and light went off.

Checked at every tire rotation and oil change.

The simplest fix is usually the best.

My wife keeps one it’s about the size of a dewalt drill. Handy thing in a pinch

I remember in high school I kept a bicycle hand pump in my toolbox that got me out of a low tire jam many times
