is the pair in the picture of your OP the Merlot?

Looks a lot darker than the pics on their website. Great looking shoes.

Yup, I've had a pair of Aldens as well. I returned them, not because they weren't a fantastic pair of shoes, but because I did not like them on me.

AE owes you a finder's fee. I just bought the same shoes you did via the sale. I have been looking to get AEs for a while, but was always philosophically opposed to the price, but that was too good of a deal to pass up. Cheers.

I have amazing experiences with Magnanni. I have three pairs and I get way more compliments on them than AE. Magnanni are clearly more Euro style which doesn't work for some people.

FYI for those who are looking for deals on stuff outside the sale, shoebank.com is Allen Edmond's factory second website. Basically it just maintains the inventory for all of the AE outlets.

It'll tell you which store to call and how much the shoes will be. I've used it a few times with no problems and have never been able to definitively ID what caused a shoe to be considered second quality.

Yes, they are Merlot. The lighting wasn't all that great for the picture though.

Are these Nordstrom rack shoes second tier?

Nordstrom rack is usually oversupply and always like size 13s and stuff. Never have good stuff in the higher demand sizes.

Also, not all AE'so are made the same. The cheaper loafers, boat shoes, etc. aren't made with the same technique. And not that they are bad at all. But don't expect that 15 year shoe that you can reconstruct.

My work shoes are Allen Edmonds and Aldens. For work, I like to wear American shoes because I think they are a little more durable. If I'm going to a wedding or something more formal, I wear a pair of Tods or Ferragamo. There is no doubt that Eurpoean shoes are more refined and better looking, but they just don't hold up as well.

Totally agree. The seconds shoes are a GREAT deal. I've never been able to tell the difference.
