PSA--Allen Edmonds sale...

I figured I would pass this along for all the Frat Stars on the OT.
While I have seen Allen Edmonds put many a seasonal shoe on sale, I have never seen them put the classic Cap-toe and wingtip shoes on sale.
However, they are implementing a minor change in the color of the classic line. The Merlot colored shoes are changing to ox blood color. The ox blood color is a little bit more red--but just a tad--most people really wouldn't notice the change. Therefore they are discounting all of the Merlot colored shoes from $395 down to $237 to make way for the ox blood colored shoes.
Pretty good deal. These are well-built shoes and can be re-soled and re-heeled when the time comes for about $125.
Here is a link to the sale... AE sale
I picked up a pair of the Strand cap-toe...great looking shoe!
And for your listening pleasure... Sharp Dressed Man--ZZ Top
Get 'em while they last!

I coupled the AMEX offer with the sale. Spend $250 get $50 off

Pretty nice. I like the Bocas listed on clearance.
Prefer Magnanni as my go to dress shoes though.

You dirty devil, tempting me with unnecessary yet wanted items.

I sure miss the Cronmoks. My favorite pair of shoes.

I'd be all over this, but I hate the Merlot color.
Also frick Allen Edmonds for discounting shite to 240 bucks when the amex offer is spend 250 get 50 back.

What makes Allen Edmonds so expensive? I assume quality is great, but quality alone doesn't make a shoe 5 times more expensive than an average shoe. Are they out of this world comfortable as well? I've never owned a pair and am currently looking for a nice pair of dress shoes to replace my worn out Stein Mart $60 pair from about 5 years ago.

The Magnani are very nice. I have a couple pair of Church that I wear for nicer occasions--the craftsmanship is stunning on them.
Since I suit up every day, I wear a cap-toe or wing tip daily. The problem is that I beat the hell out of them!
Hardly a couple months go by that I don't have at least one pair of shoes back at AE in Wisconsin getting re soled/heeled. I am usually in them 6 or 7 days a week. Over the years I have amassed a few pair in each style and in Merlot, black, and Bourbon--I try to be good about rotating and using trees, but it doesn't always happen.
I will say, though, for the $125 rebuild fee, the shoes come back looking practicality new! They not only put new heels and soles, but will also buff out all the deep scratches and try to repair any gouges in the leather (like I said--I am tough on shoes).
But at $237 a pair, it is hard to beat...I am tempted to get another pair now (McAllister) as a back up--a classic shoe never looks bad with a suit and is always in style.

It's a Goodyear welted construction, meaning it will last forever unlike that glued together piece of crap from the mall. Also a higher quality leather that will form a great patina over time.

They know what they're doing

Correct.
Also, they are stitched, not glued. The leather is also of a higher grade (fewer imperfections), and usually a bit softer (very soft on the Cordovan series).

Not a fan of that Merlot color. I'd pull the trigger if they had a lighter brown on sale like that. Still considering the tan suede loafer though for my navy blue suits

I think I'm gonna try to buy some AEs second hand from eBay then send them in for reconstruction.
Anybody else try this?

Well let's say you buy a used pair for $70 (just guessing here--I imagine that's what they would be used), and a re-build is $125--so you are at $195 to rebuild used shoes...or you can spend $40 more now and just get a new pair...and your own foot would then mold the leather for a perfect fit.

I usually always wear a merlot or Oxblood colored Oxford shoe with a dark navy suit.

Well I'm talking in general and not this sale. I have cordovan shoes.
